"Hoffman's first book is a gripping thriller I couldn't put down! The characters were well developed and the plot twist at the end I didn't see coming. C.J. Townsend is a Miami state prosecutor at the top of her game and involved with Major Crimes. The latest serial killer, "Cupid" takes delight in torture and mutilation, staging the body and "when and where" the bodies are found. When Miami cops find a missing girl's body in the trunk of a car driven by Bill Bantling, they're sure they've captured the killer. What C.J. doesn't know yet is that the guy she's due to prosecute was the rapist who left her for dead some 12 years before. And the story just keep getting better..."

" This was an excellent read. Lots of intrigue. It's about a young lawyer who is viciously raped. She survives but it changes her life. She moves to another city and becomes a prosecuting attorney only to meet up with her rapist again. She is in the difficult position of wanting to prosecute but knows it's not ethical. The rapist does not recognize her at first, but does after awhile. She really struggles with this tough case. "

" A young law student is brutally raped in New York. 10 years later, she is the lead prosecutor in Miami, working on the case of a serial killer nicknamed Cupid. A suspect turns up--whom she believes is the same man who raped her years before.[return][return]The plot reminds me of the early patricia Cornwell books; unfortunately, the writing, while good, is not at that high a level. There is a nice twist towards the end that makes for page-turning tension at that point. The courtroom scenes are well done but not out of the ordinary. All in all, a good read. "
