Brian Garfield (1939–2018) wrote more than fifty novels, and eighteen films are based on his works. He is the author of The Thousand-Mile War: World War II in Alaska and the Aleutians, which was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for History. He was president of both the Western Writers of America and the Mystery Writers of America and received the latter’s Edgar Award for best novel of the year.
