Marc Royce stares out of the helicopter, a sense of foreboding rising with the volcanic cloud. Below, the Rift Valley slashes across Africa like a scar. Decades of conflicts, droughts, and natural disasters have left their mark. Dispatched to audit a relief organization, Royce is thrust into the squalor and chaos of Kenyan refugee camps. But his true mission focuses on the area’s reserves of once-obscure minerals now indispensable to high-tech industries. These strategic elements — called rare earths — have inflamed tensions on the world’s stage and stoked tribal rivalries. As Royce prepares to report back to Washington, he seizes on a bold and risky venture for restoring justice to this troubled land. But this time, Royce may have gone too far.

"A different kind of book. from what I hear Bunn must write some "girly romance" books. This is not one of them. Good action, decent hero and enjoyable setting. I am looking forward to reading the first book of this series. Marc Royce is a hero worth following"

" Not a bad read, but I was hoping for more. The ending seemed rather anticlimactic. On a positive note, his portrayal of Kenya and her people was very strong. "
— Rick, 2/19/2014" This was an interesting read. It makes me wonder what might truly be the setting in Nairobi. "
— doug, 1/28/2014" Good read. First Davis Bunn novel. Highly recommend. "
— Bill, 1/21/2014" This would make a great movie - lots of action, a romance, the UN. An interesting book. "
— Linda, 1/14/2014" Davis Bunn does an excellent job of drawing you into the story and wondering where it will go. Lots of twists and turns with a satisfying ending. "
— Beth, 1/6/2014" Still Reading... I like ! "
— Mike, 1/3/2014" I sure hope this isn't the last Marc Royce book. "
— Karen, 12/10/2013" I like Bunn's style. He avoids the hackneyed copy most Christian writers feel compelled to drop in every book just to make sure they've witnessed. But I have troubled staying with the stories. They can get to be too inside spook world. "
— Jean, 10/8/2013" Enjoyed the story, plot, and the action. I never really bought the love story angle though. "
— Brooke, 10/2/2013" LOVED this book! Davis Bunn makes you feel like you're covered in ash and in the middle of the action. :) Looking forward to the next one! "
— Cyndi, 3/9/2013" This book suffers from genre confusion "
— Lelia, 1/4/2013" Wow! I felt like I was in Africa. I could smell the ash and smoke from the volcano; I could see the baobob trees and the poverty of the refugee camps. Mr. Bunn instills hope in the reader. Despite the atrocities in Kenya, the Gospel is spreading. "
