This rich and powerful retelling of the great biblical story of King David and Queen Michal paints a truly provocative portrait of the royal couple.

Michal, a wise and loving woman who refuses to compromise her soul, thrives in her own ways under the rule of her greedy and ambitious husband, David.

For over 40 years, Michal lived and reigned in David's court. She was the beautiful and proud daughter of King Saul and the prize David would risk his kingdom to win. Behind the palace doors, beneath the burning sun of the desert, or fleeing from Absalom's warriors, Michal was at the center of court intrigues.

Queenmaker introduces in unforgettable detail the characters of one of the greatest periods in Biblical history - their public deeds and private thoughts - and gives us the court of the kings as only a woman could see it. Download and start listening now!

" Reminiscent of "The Red Tent." This novel tells the story of the first kings of Israel - Saul, David and Solomon - told through the eyes of Queen Michael, daughter of Saul, first wife of David, and loving friend to David's mistress Bathsheba (who is the mother of Solomon). The story is one of intrigue, lust, war, hate, passion, treachery, and love. It's a fascinating look at this well-known biblical tale. "

" Loved it! Loved the way David was portrayed as this manipulative, selfish bastard. Loved the way she used bible verses to begin the chapters. It felt like she was reading between the lines. "

" picked it up b/c the cover art looked like The Red Tent. A review on the jacket said it was similar. It isn't, but it made me get out my Bible to read I&II Samuel and I Kings. So it's not all that bad, right? "

" Loved the writing and the worldbuilding, only thing that prevented a 5-star was that David was a bit too much of an unscrupulous jerk for me to take as a serious interpretation of his character. "

" Started to read this in hopes it would be a good bit of, 'fleshing out' of the scriptures. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a character attack on, King David. King David was not a homosexual. I think it is sad, and more than just a little bit pathetic, that the author went in this direction. "

" Very good book. However, it was difficult for me to see King David portrayed in a not-so-positive light. I know he had his flaws, but I am not sure I agree with the author's interpretation of his character. A quick read. "

" Read in 2002, so it's been a while. The story of Michal, King David's first wife and Queen. My notes say I wondered if Kind David could possibly have been the arrogant, narcissistic scumbag that Edghill portrays. I suppose it's possible. "
