The national bestselling author of The Same Sweet Girls and The Sunday Wife returns with another compulsively readable novel
It's not easy being the Queen of Broken Hearts. Just ask Clare, who has willingly assumed the mantle while her career as a divorce coach thrives. Now she's preparing to open a permanent home for the retreats she leads, on a slice of breathtaking property on the Alabama coast owned by her mother-in-law. Make that former mother-in-law, a colorful eccentric who teaches Clare much about love and sacrifice and living freely. When Clare's marriage ends in tragedy, her work becomes the sole focus of her life. While Clare has no problem helping the hundreds of men and women who seek her advice to mend their broken hearts, healing her own is another matter entirely. Falling in love again is the last thing she wants.
So when Lex -- a charismatic, charming, burly sea captain -- moves to town to run the marina, Clare insists they remain friends and nothing more. But even though she fights it, she begins to fall for him -- and then finds she has a rival, his estranged wife Annalee.
A story infused with all the flavors, textures, and intrigues of a small Southern town, with a rich, resonant center, Queen of Broken Hearts is a bold step forward for Cassandra King.

"Wow...this book was great for me especially where I am in life I was able to really relate. Clare is a therapist who has not been in a relationship since her husband passed away. Her best friend is Dory who is married to Son. Her daughter, Haley, is married to Austin. Trouble lurks in these relationships and the insights offered were useful to me."

" A pretty good story in a great setting, but just so much touchy-feely-new-agey stuff that I kept losing focus. I think it might have been better shorter. . . or something. "
— Kw, 2/18/2014" I wanted to like this book. I liked The Sunday Wife and I may read another by this author. This one started out ok, but it really dragged on and on. The last one hundred pages could have been condensed to about thirty in my opinion. Good concept, but I wanted it to be a little less cumbersome. I would give it two and a half stars, but I can't give it three. "
— Amy, 2/12/2014" This is one of those books I really tried to like. But about halfway through I realized I couldn't wait for it to end. Not a good sign! Just didn't care about the characters or the storyline to continue. "
— Mary, 2/12/2014" Complex characters, each learning about themselves and life as the book progresses. True-to-life friendships. Enjoyable read. "
— Charlene, 2/1/2014" Nothing earth shattering but an ok read. "
— Claire, 1/22/2014" Loved this book. Set in a small town in Alabama( Fairhope) Just so happens I stopped in the town for the night on the way to Destin, Florida. Charming town and I felt connected to this book since I had been there. Great character development "
— Cheri, 1/22/2014" Didn't love or hate this book - it was an ok read. "
— Shannon, 1/19/2014" Lovely and requently LOL funny story about overcoming loss and strength in friendships set in Fairhope Alabama. "
— Lisa, 1/11/2014" Okay, I didn't finish this book, I gave up after about 40 pages. The plot was not moving along and apparently there was another book I should have read first. Since I hadn't read it, I was lost. "
— Cheryl, 1/5/2014" Wow! It took me one month to make it thru my last book and I finished this one in less than 24 hours! This is a fantastic book for anyone that has been through the end of a marriage whether it is from death or divorce. I laughed out loud a few times and I cried. It was really good! "
— Wendy, 1/2/2014" Not as good as her other books. "
— Becky, 12/26/2013" Reads like a soap opera. I do not like soap operas. "
— Valorie, 12/7/2013" I didn't think I'd like this one because I thought it was a romance novel. While there was a lot of talk about love and some mushy stuff, the story was really good. I liked both the male and the female characters. "
— Beth, 11/7/2013" Great writing. Wearied of the story. "
— Lynne, 11/6/2013" It was a good book. Loved it all the way through, except disappointed at the ending. It stopped abruptly and I felt that it had no real ending or closure. "
— Bobbie, 10/31/2013" This is one of my all time favorite books. I'm currently listening to the audiobook version and it is fabulous. "
— Tricia, 10/13/2013" I admit it, parts of this book made me cry a little. Although the main characters are a bit older than I am, I could relate all too well to their situations. Whole story struck pretty close to home. "
— Kristi, 7/13/2013" I had high hopes for this book because I've enjoyed Cassandra King's previous novels, but I had a really hard time finding any interest in the characters. "
— Jenn, 6/25/2013" I read some of the reviews on here and isn't have high hopes. However I enjoyed it. "
— Terese, 9/24/2012" This is a blue book. Yeah, there was a romance but not an exciting one. The daughters story is sad. Why did these women like each other? Why did the Golden boy kill himself over the child or the childhood love? Parts were really good but it left me feeling slightly depressed. "
— Virginia, 2/21/2012" This teeters between 3 and 3.5 for me; it was pretty good. King overused the word regard and it began to annoy me. I don't know if I noticed it more because it was an audio book or not. I wasn't overly fond of the narrator and my have enjoyed it more if I would have read vs. listened. "
— Susan, 1/7/2012" Typical southern chick-lit. Which the two men she would choose wasn't completely obvious the whole time, which was a plus. "
— Lauren, 1/2/2012" It is a sweet love story - far from gripping but interesting. I enjoyed reading it. I cried at the end - a happily-ever-after type of thing. "
— Donna, 9/23/2011" I just plain enjoyed this book. Perfect for curling up with a cup of coffee on a saturday, getting lost in great characters and a great read. "
— Rebecca, 5/24/2011" An interesting story about a divorce therapist trying to find closure in her own life. Loved Lex, the man from Maine. Kind of went on a bit. Listened to it on CD. If I had been reading it, I think it would have taken me a while to finish. "
— Pat, 5/17/2011" Wow! It took me one month to make it thru my last book and I finished this one in less than 24 hours! This is a fantastic book for anyone that has been through the end of a marriage whether it is from death or divorce. I laughed out loud a few times and I cried. It was really good! "
— Wendy, 4/9/2011" This book didn't impress me much. I found it boring. It really didn't have a story line. It was all about losing someone. I didn't feel like this book really had any substance to it. "
— Laurie, 3/21/2011" Took a while to get into, but I enjoyed the book. "
— Julie, 12/25/2010" Reminds me of Dorothea Benton Frank type of story. "
— Cheryl, 12/11/2010" Okay, I didn't finish this book, I gave up after about 40 pages. The plot was not moving along and apparently there was another book I should have read first. Since I hadn't read it, I was lost. "
— Cheryl, 9/3/2010" I love this book! It was something I would not normally have picked up, but I am glad I did! It's kinda a southern comedy/romance. Give it a try :] "
— Aimee, 6/8/2010" Didn't love or hate this book - it was an ok read. "
— Shannon, 4/17/2010" I read this because it was written by Pat Conroy's wife and I was curious. Sloooowwww beginning with a very predictable ending. Wasn't bad, but not one that I would recommend as a 'must read.' "
— Mikie, 3/16/2010" Ms. King is wonderful. I felt like I was in Fairhope AL. Her descriptions are well constructed and her characters are complete and believable. It is a great story of friendship and love. I will remember the magic of this "family" of women for a long time. "
— Diane, 3/13/2010" I actually liked the characters, but it was obvious how the story would end and the bad language increased as the story proceeded so I can't recommend it. "
