Publisher Description

Bringing together all of the James Bond short stories in one volume for the first time, this is the ultimate celebration of suave and deadly secret agent 007. Whether he’s making an unexpected discovery in the Bahamas, hunting down a Cuban hit man in wild country, smashing an international drug ring in Rome, or on the trail of a murderous assassin in Berlin’s sniper alley, dangerous missions and beautiful women come with the job for James Bond. And this agent is always a consummate professional.

Many of Ian Fleming’s short stories have inspired the extremely successful James Bond films, and included in this collection are “From a View to a Kill,” “For Your Eyes Only,” “Quantum of Solace,” “Risico,” “The Hildebrand Rarity,” “Octopussy,” “The Property of a Lady,” “The Living Daylights,” and “007 in New York.”

This collection’s title story, “Quantum of Solace,” lends its name to the 2008 James Bond film starring Daniel Craig.

"A book of 007 short stories. Some of the stories were as good as the full length novels, others had little to nothing to do with Bond. It was like Ian Flemming had a story in mind so he would write it and at the last minute insert JB."

Quotes

  • “Urban savagery…smooth tale spinning.”

    — New York Herald Tribune
  • “Mr. Fleming’s licensed assassin is in good form…Few men can have been able to mix business with pleasure so successfully as Bond.”

    — Times Literary Supplement (London)
  • “This complete collection of 007 stories is made especially captivating by the talents of Simon Vance, whose cool, subdued and slightly removed narration is spot on, recalling Sean Connery’s interpretation of the role. So arresting is Vance’s performance that…his telling of the riveting tales come through as keenly as a well-aimed shot from a Walther PPK.”

    — Publishers Weekly
  • “Master criminals, beautiful damsels in distress, and plenty of action—essentially everything fans have come to associate with 007…Fun reads—great beach books—and the character is still immensely popular on screen, so these are well worth having.”

    — Library Journal
  • “Admirers of Bond will find him in top form.”

" It is interesting to see the correlation between the short stories and the films, mostly the Moore/Bond films. How For Your Eyes Only is the combination of three stories where Octopussy, Quantum of Solace and A View to A Kill share little more than titles. The shorter works are largely exposition with glimpses of typical Fleming/Bond action. A curio for fans such as myself, but at times a bit lacking in substance. "

" The stories waver between three and four stars...he's obviously working some things out. I must say that my appreciation for the title of the collection, and consequently the recent movie, was increased ten-fold by reading the fantastic short story so named! And so begins my decent in to all things Bond! "

" This collection of Bond stories was great. Fleming is a much easier read in these short bursts, and it was interesting to see how these short stories were adapted into longer films. "

" Thought I was buying Quantum of Solace with short stories. This is a collection of scenes. Just enough to start enjoying it, then it was over. This was worthless to me. This product does more to destroy the ecology, because it is not good to listen to and bad for the landfill because that is where the product belongs. wasted my money! "

" I was a bit confused when I picked up this book - I didn't realise it was a book of short stories at first and when I got to the end of the first story I was disappointed. But then, once I'd realised, I quite enjoyed the stories. Fleming is a great author. "

" I'd never read Ian Fleming before, and this was a fun introduction to his work. For some reason (maybe due to the title), I pictured Roger Moore as Bond in all of the stories. This collection was entertaining enough that I'll probably pickup a James Bond novel or two. "
