After defying the ruthless Enclave, surviving the wasteland, and upending the rigid matriarchy of Sylum, Gaia Stone now faces her biggest challenge ever. She must lead the people of Sylum back to the Enclave and persuade the Protectorat to grant them refuge from the wasteland. In Gaia's absence, the Enclave has grown more cruel, more desperate to experiment on mothers from outside the wall, and now the stakes of cooperating or rebelling have never been higher. Is Gaia ready, as a leader, to sacrifice what—or whom—she loves most?

"Great trilogy! However, this was my least favorite of the books. I was slightly disappointed with the ending and found the back&forth between the Enclave and New Sylum/Wharfton tiring and repetitive. I was also very surprised with the amount of mistakes with punctuation - it kind of made me feel that the book was rushed. All in all, I would recommend this book to those who like dystopian stories. It is a great adventure that is often hard to put down."
— Stephanie (4 out of 5 stars)
A satisfying finish to a strong series that deftly mixed romance and, of all things, genetics.
— Booklist" I want more! But it is was good!! "
— Jasmine, 2/20/2014" I was really disappointed with Promised. I enjoyed the ending, but the whole rest of the story was filled with the worst decision making ever. O'Brien turned Gaia into the worst example of a leader I've ever seen. It completely ruined the experience for me. The first book was fantastic, the second was less stellar but still pretty good, and this one just completely fizzled out! "
— Kayla, 2/18/2014" This is a decent ending to the trilogy. I think the first book is the best one, but the other two are good also and Promised is an ok ending to the series. Gaia finds that leadership is much more difficult than she realized as she tries to make peace with the people of the Enclave and join their communities. I really was not thrilled with the torture parts of the story and I thought that Gaia was rather stupid to allow herself to be caught more than one time. I realize that trilogies and series are all the rage now, but sometimes it may be best for an author to just write one really good book than to start out with a great book and then try to make it into a set of books that goes downhill after that. "
— Dana, 2/13/2014" part 3 continues with lots of dramatic twists and turns but just ends quietly, which lost this installment the 5th star. I agree with the review on the cover: a smart and tough series. "
— Bethe, 2/5/2014" I loved this book! The characters are strong but not overly so, and there's a twist at the end that you wouldn't have guessed by reading the first two books. My favorite character in this book is totally Pyhro (sp?). The Protectorat is kinda the cliche bad guy, though. "
— Caitlyn, 1/7/2014" Honest and riveting. An epic ending to an epic series. I wouldn't have had it end any other way. Gaia is one of the most realistic MC in a long time and her courage and honesty are evident in her struggles with decisions and the outcomes. Pure genius. "
— Samantha, 1/1/2014" I was disappointed in this final book of the series. The protagonist did many stupid and pointless things throughout the course of the book and I found myself disliking her. The first two books were much more interesting and the characters were more likable. "
— Karen, 12/13/2013" Wasn't bad but very disappointed with the ending. She could have gone into a lot more of the final confrontation. "
— Kacey, 12/9/2013" Didn't really care for the 3rd book of this series. Loved the first 2 and kind of guessed how it would end, but the thing that happened to Gaia was kind of ridiculous. "
— Cristy, 12/7/2013" SOOOO disappointed in this book. I loved #1 and #2 and just felt bored by the third. Read it to finish off the series, but beware it leaves something to be desired. "
— Laurie, 9/25/2013" A blurb on the back said it was like Children of Men meets Handmaid's Tale for young adults. I agree. And since I liked both of those.... The whole stealing ovaries/eggs thing also reminded me of Glow. "
— Emily, 7/28/2013" I love this trilogy. If you're a fan of the Hunger Games you'll love this dystopian story! Check my reviews of the other 2 books to get more of the story line! "
— Madison, 7/9/2013" Release date: October 2, 2012 "
— Trisha, 5/19/2013" An okay conclusion to the series. Having not read the second book since last year I had forgotten a lot of the people and there were no recaps on anything. I appreciate a book giving a simple review of what was going on previously. "
— La, 3/13/2013" So sad this series is over...looking forward to more from this author! "
