Publisher Description

Kelly Link is a rising literary star whose writing draws strong comparisons to that of Neil Gaiman. In her first collection of short stories for young adults, she uses her keen eye for detail to vividly portray her own unique perspective on the world. Nothing is as it seems in these stories, and young listeners will want to return to this collection again and again.

"This collection includes some stories you have read if you are a Kelly Link fan (and you should be), and the ones that you have not read are geared toward young adults. That matters not a whit; they are very, very good. "Little Monsters", which closes out the collection, would make a great movie."

" Nice collection of fantasy/horror short stories. Some are better than others. Reminded me of the Firebird collections. I particularly enjoyed the title story, "Pretty Monsters." Meanings of "pretty monsters" abound, and the story keeps the reader guessing. "

" Kelly Link is my favorite author right now. I'd read several of the stories in this collection before, but the ones that were new to me were great - ranging from really creepy to strange and magical. "

" Not quite just fantasy, or sci fi or horror, this collection of short stories was fun because they were so different. Can't say that I liked all of them or even know what happened in all of them, but they kept me engaged. "

" Kelly Link is just amazing. I want every short story to go on forever. I want there to be an entire series of books on almost every one. I want the TV show "The Library" to exist. I want her to write much, much more! "

" A little disappointed by a couple of the stories and the fact that there is some overlap with her previous collections. But still, any excuse to re-read "The Faery Handbag" (probably one of my all-time favourite stories) is a good excuse. :) "
