John Green is murdered while on the telephone to the district attorney. The obvious killer has a good alibi; the D.A. is then shot. As Philo Vance and District Attorney Markam were looking through the apartment of John Green who had been murdered the day before, Markham was shot. Both of their suspects, Mrs Green and a man named Edward Lee, have alibis for around eleven o’clock, the time they believe the murder of John Green was committed.

Jackson Beck (1912–2004), born in Manhattan, was an American actor best known as the announcer on radio’s The Adventures of Superman and as the voice of Bluto in the Famous Studios–era Popeye theatrical shorts. He also appeared as the narrator in Woody Allen’s Take the Money and Run in 1969 and the cult comedy Cry Uncle in 1971.
Frank Lovejoy (1912–1962) was an American film, radio, and television actor who played a number of detectives, reporters, and soldiers over the course of his career. His gritty voice was ideal for radio, and he went on to star on such shows as Night Beat and Gangbusters.
