Publisher Description

First published in 1905 in Cather’s first short story collection, The Troll Garden. When republished in 1920, it made Cather’s fortune and her fame spread as a new great American author. “Paul’s Case” is one of two stories accessible to most young people in high school and college. It relates to what they feel, think, and want to be; and perhaps just as importantly, it describes well young people’s upset by their current circumstances, their family, and drabness they perceive in their own lives.
