Publisher Description

Once the Sith order teemed with followers. But their rivalries divided them in endless battles for supremacy - until one dark lord at last united the Sith in the quest to enslave the galaxy and exterminate the Jedi. Yet it would fall to another, far more powerful than the entire Brotherhood of Darkness, to ultimately realize the full potential of the Sith and wield the awesome power of the dark side as never before.

Since childhood, Dessel has known only the abuse of his hateful father and the dangerous, soul-crushing labor of a cortosis miner. Deep in the tunnels of the desolate planet Apatros, endlessly excavating the rare mineral valued throughout the galaxy, Dessel dreams of the day he can escape - a day he fears may never come. But when a high-stakes card game ends in deadly violence, Dessel suddenly finds himself a wanted man.

On the run from vengeful Republic forces, Dessel vanishes into the ranks of the Sith army and ships out to join the bloody war against the Republic and its Jedi champions. There, Dessel's brutality, cunning, and exceptional command of the Force swiftly win him renown as a warrior. But in the eyes of his watchful masters, he is destined for a far greater role in the ultimate Sith plan for the galaxy - if he can prove himself truly worthy.

As an acolyte in the Sith academy, studying the secrets and skills of the dark side at the feet of its greatest masters, Dessel embraces his new Sith identity: Bane. However the true test is yet to come. In order to gain acceptance into the Brotherhood of Darkness, one must fully surrender to the dark side through a trial by fire that Bane, for all his unquenchable fury and lust for power, may not be strong enough to endure... especially since deception, treachery, and murder run rampant among the Sith disciples, and utter ruthlessness alone is the key to survival.

Only by defying the most sacred traditions, rejecting all he has been taught, and drawing upon the long-f...

"I found Path of Destruction to be an excellent read! I enjoyed the character of Dart Maul. It was very enjoyable in the fact that as a long time Star Wars fan I tend to be a fan of the light side characters. It was so hard not to like Darth Maul so I find myself rooting for him even though I know he will ultimately end up on the dark side. I love how he restores the Sith to thier former way! Excellent book, it was hard to put it down and I would recommend to any Star Wars EU fan."

" I was so looking forward to this book when I read it. But it was just grist-mill fanboy stuff. The writer is good, but he was given the task of just regurgitating what had been published previously in comics. Sort of a reverse adaptation in that sense (it usually goes the other way). So disappointing hat I got a lot choosier about my Star Wars books to read. So that saved me money in the long term, so I guess I'm indebted to it in a sense. "

" For fans of the darker side of the force, this book is a must read. This book explains how a cortosis miner, then a soldier in the sith army, single-handedly reshaped the Galaxy by becoming a great Sith Lord and establishing the Rule of Two; a Master and an Apprentice, disposing of all that threatens to weaken the Sith Order. Even if that happens to be the current Sith Order itself. "

" I enjoyed reading this more than I thought I would (so, okay, Kevin, you were right). The plot is well-paced and exciting, and the writing, although not amazing, is decent enough not to distract much from the plot. "

" As a really nerdy Star Wars fan i really liked this one. I liked the way it was written and the characters and story. I think i will like this one even more after reading the other two books in the serie. Maybe it will feel more complete. For now, a strong three/weak four. "

" A thousand years before A New Hope, the Sith had an academy much like the Jedi. But that all changed - "One to embody the power and one to crave it". While this story was interesting history wise, I just felt it was a little all over the place: too many characters, not enough development. "

" It was good and action packed but there was little heart in it. Granted it was a book about a Sith lord however, even the Jedi's sacrifice seemed almost empty. Other than that, good story. "
