"When I pick up a book by Liz Carlyle I know I'm going to love it. This book was no exception. It was filled with the expected romance along with a murder mystery and a surprising mix of the Scottish sight and Indian mysticism, but of course takes place in London. The author writes her characters so well you think they could actually be real people you might meet yourself. She also has a way with writing familial and fraternal relationships that are full and realistic. I look forward to reading the next book in the St. James Society books, of which this is the first (I believe) to see who she chooses as the centerpiece of that novel."

“Grace’s tenacity, wit, and compassion make her a very believable, multidimensional character and the perfect match for Ruthveyn’s brooding and dark secrets. The romance sizzles, its unpredictability propelling this complex story far beyond its contemporaries.”
— Publishers Weekly (starred review)“With its exceptionally rich characterization, an engaging plot that gracefully pairs danger and desire, and an intriguing touch of the paranormal, Carlyle’s latest stylishly written, lusciously sensual Regency historical romance is supremely satisfying.”
— Booklist (starred review)" Great read, with lots of mystery and suspense along with plenty of sizzle. "
— Nanci, 2/19/2014" prelim review: While I enjoyed the story and the mystery as to who killed Ethan Holding, the paranormal elements left me feeling jarred, confused and irritated more often than not. Also it sometimes felt as if Carlyle was referencing a previous novel's plot/adventures, but this is meant to be the first in a new trilogy. "
— Lexie, 2/16/2014" I liked a lot of things about this book: the heroine was lively and self-assured, the hero flawed, the ancient mysticism thread added diversity to the storyline, and i didn't see the ending coming from a mile away. Altogether it was a lovely read! I am on a romance kick right too, already halfway through another one. "
— Holly, 2/11/2014" absolutely brilliant! This is the 1st book I read by her and now I'll be reading more I love how it turn out. "
— Penney, 2/8/2014" a lot of romance, a little mystery and a lot of chermistry. "
— Amanda, 1/24/2014" Provisionally rated 'okay' though I suspect that might improve on a reread... Grace didn't appeal to me as much as Evie, Jonet, or Catherine, maybe because I expected her to be more feisty when she was raised in the Foreign Legion; further acquaintance required. "
— Kate, 11/19/2013" Historical romance meets mysticism. Yuck. "
— JJ, 10/1/2013" I do like Liz Carlyle.. And this series is right up there. "

— Dianne, 11/10/2012" While not one of Carlyle's best stories or even one of the better paranormal romances. For a lazy Sunday afternoon it's not a half bad book. "
— Lena, 8/27/2012" Ugh. No bueno. Could barely get through it. So disappointing considering her earlier works were quite good. "
— Eve, 6/4/2012" Grace Gauthier is accused of murdering her employer. She is alone, despised by her mother's family. Lord Ruthveyn is determined to find the killer and save Grace. "
— Mem, 4/15/2012" This book surprised me, I was expecting a typical regency romance, the setting and plot are true to type for the most part, with an interesting murder plot and paranormal angle just to add spice. It's well written, and quite "hot" great romance. "
— Gloria, 3/15/2012" I'm not sure what it is about this that didn't work as well for me as her other novels. It was OK, but the paranormal element did nothing for me and didn't do much to enhance the plot. "
— Marsha, 11/6/2011" I liked the story and enjoyed the hero and heroine, but something caused me to struggle through the book. Maybe it was all the details or the otherworldly feel to the situation, I'm unsure. "
