Ian Falconer (1959-2023) wrote and illustrated the bestselling and Caldecott Honor–winning Olivia series. He studied art art history at New York University and painting at Parsons School of Design, and his illustrations have appeared on more than thirty covers of the New Yorker. He has also designed sets and costumes for the New York City Ballet, the San Francisco Opera, and the Royal Opera House, among others.
