Emma and her friend Chloe are spending their vacation in Florida. When Emma literally runs into a hot guy named Galen on the beach, little does she know he’s a prince of the Syrena. Galen and Emma both feel something strange—is it attraction?—and Galen suspects that Emma might well be the girl he’s heard of—a human who can communicate with fish. What follows is a deadly scene with a shark in which Galen witnesses Emma’s gifts. He must know more about her, and follows her back to New Jersey, and high school, to find out for sure if she’s the key to saving his kingdom. Soon, Emma can’t deny her feelings for him, but she can’t explain them either—and both she and Galen must learn more about where she comes from and what her powers are before they can trust one another and their feelings.

Told from both Emma and Galen’s points of view, here is a fish-out-of-water story that sparkles with intrigue, humor, and waves of romance.

Quotes & Awards

  • “A refreshing story filled with vibrant characters, feisty humor, and an irresistible romance. This story of star-crossed lovers in a luscious coastal setting brings new life to the age-old myth of merfolk and left me swooning for more!”

Marissa Meyer, New York Times bestselling author

  • “This book, described on the back cover as a ‘fish-out-of-water’ story is much, much more…Banks’ well-crafted plot twists and turns, and questions come up faster than a scuba diver in shallow water…This is a compelling read with a cliffhanger ending.”

    Children’s Literature

  • “A sweet mermaid romance…[with] a great deal of charm.”

    Publishers Weekly

  • “Sparkling conversation dominates this lively performance, although Galen and his friend Toraf’s voices are sometimes similar. Gibel’s flirty banter will make a big splash with listeners.”

" Like the cool waters of the Atlantic, Of Poseidon washes over you and envelopes you in a world of the unknown, minus the icky feeling of dried salt. Filled with amazingly detailed and imaginative lore concerning the Syrena, Banks creates a world that blends reality and mythology. The characters are surprisingly lovable despite their penchant for over the top emotion. The dialogue is often witty between the characters, and the inner dialogue is insightful as it is helpful to understand the actions of Emma and Galen. I admit hesitancy on all things mermaid thanks in part to Disney, but this is not a tale (pun intended) to be missed. "

" I wish I was of the Sea. OF POSEIDON was an excellent read. From the very beginning when Emma walks into Galen, literally walks into him, I was hooked. This book was funny and thoughtful and when the relationship/chemistry between Emma and Galen finally explodes it is amazing. Even Galen's twin sister Rayna is a hoot. That girl has one fiery attitude and she is not afraid to use it, haha! The only thing I didn't like was the mother of Emma. She was a bit much...but I guess she had good reason. But she was over the top obsessive and kind bi-polar in her reactions. "

" Of Poseidon is an enchanting tale that gives makes mermaids feel more than fairy tale. The difference between mermaids and the Syrena is the difference between fairies and the fey. Romance, excitement, and surprise is around every corner keeping you reading till the book is done. "
