Publisher Description

Stacy Aumonier was described by John Galsworthy as “one of the best short-story writers of all time.” Odd Fish gives a keen insight into why the Nobel Prize winner believed Aumonier would outlive the writers of his day. In this collection of sketches of London characters, Aumonier amply exhibits his genius for characterization, his keen wit and his ruthless ascerbity.

From reluctant fishmongers to opulent ballad singers with a shameful secret, drunks and scoundrals to eccentrics and geniuses, Aumonier sketches his characters from life and portays them as real, credible, rounded individuals, gradually unmasking them as though peeling the layers from an onion.
