Publisher Description

Beth Venable has seen too much. Witness to a major mob hit, she's placed in protective custody until the trial. But after her third safe house is riddled with bullets, she goes offgrid to save herself. What the FBI can't do, her kinfolk will.

The beautiful but forbidding Appalachian Mountains of Kentucky welcome Beth back, with dirt roads and rustic shacks a world apart from L.A. But her homecoming - even her blissful reunion with strong, silent Ryal Walker - is made bittersweet by the fight she's brought to the clan's doorstep. Hidden in a remote cabin with the man she's always wanted, Beth begins to dream of a new life: her old one. But after so long, with such dangers stalking her...it seems impossible. But love can distill life down to its essence: an elixir of pure hope, nerve - and the will to survive.

"this is the beginning of a new series and i loved every word of it :) sharon has a tendency to write books that i have a hard time putting down once i start reading them. this was no exception. it has just the right mix of romance and action to make it a nonstop read :) definitely recommended reading."

" I normally really enjoy Sala's books. They are like putting on a comfy pair of sweats. Predictable but enjoyable. This one really fell flat for me. I think it was the hill billy in it. First of all the hero falls in love with the heroine when he was 25 and she was 17. Ick. No man should be sniffing around a high school girl like that!!! Then there was the whole intermarriage problem. Beth and Ryal are cousins. Distantly, Sala assures us. Apparently the Walkers and the Venables do nothing but marry each other. I am sure the family tree looks like a gnarled tree you'd find in a cartoon. "

" romantic suspense involving a witness to a murder. The book was ok, but not as exciting as some of sharon sala's other books. It was a little flat in places and lacking the usual build up of suspense that Miss Sala is known for. Hoping the next book of this series will be better. "

" These could have been an awesome read, but the love scenes were just too vague. Had SS punched up those scenes more and less of Alex and his dad I would have liked this a whole lot more. "

" The moral of this first-rate romantic suspense novel? If you're an organized crime boss and you're trying to kill a witness, you'd better hope she doesn't take refuge with her extended family in the Appalachian Mountains. They've got more firepower than you do. "

" There were so many things I didn't like about this book. The writing for one, in my opinion, was awful. The two people who are love interests, are cousins. O.o And...there's just... so much I could say but I'd rather focus on the positive. The positive here is that I'm done reading. :P "

" I'm torn between a 3 or 4 star. The story itself was good and entertaining but I had issues with certain things. Mainly the sex with a minor thing but there were a few other very minor things too. Nothing that would prevent me from continuing the series, though. "
