"This is the 14th book in the Gaslight Mystery series. I love the series - great characters, wonderful setting ( New York City at the turn of the century) and always a murder to solve. I am sorry I have to wait a year for the next book to come out. I think next year's book will find Sarah and her detective friend moving forward in their relationship. Can't wait!"

“Newcomers as well as old fans will find this an intelligent and engrossing look at society and its hypocrisy.”
— Publishers Weekly“Thompson once more weaves the class differences and casual bigotry of the period into a mystery with some neat twists.”
— Kirkus Reviews“Victoria Thompson has a knack for putting the reader inside her characters’ heads and…[brings] the setting vividly to life.”
— Kate Kingsbury, author of Mistletoe and Mayhem" I am going to have to quit reading this if the relationship between the main characters doesn't grow soon. The mystery is not good enough to hold me to this series...I come back for the development of the characters and there have been too many books where there just isn't any. "
— Jewell, 2/18/2014" Great mystery... Kept me guessing almost to the very end... I love these old New York mysteries... "
— Diane, 2/17/2014" I love her books, and this is another winner! "
— Ulli, 2/12/2014" This was another good one in the series. After 14 books, it's a really credit to the author to keep them entertaining. The characters are evolving and in this one, we get to see more of Sarah's parents - with a bit of a cliffhanger at the end. "
— Maribeth, 2/10/2014" The absence of tension between the protagonists takes away from the plot. Felt a bit bland. "
— Patricia, 2/9/2014" This latest installment of the Sarah Brandt series was well written and the characters were well developed. This was a fun read as far as mysteries go. "
— Rachel, 2/5/2014" there is a certain satisfaction in solving the mystery before the detective. But it also makes me wonder if the series is getting too predictable. "
— Emily, 1/26/2014" I love this series. I too, wish that there was more romance. The mysteries are usually fun to follow and it is a quick and good read for me.It is not a deep or life changing book. It is meant to be a fun get a way.I will read the next one as well. "
— Pamela, 1/19/2014" The mystery kept me guessing until the end and there were a lot of scenes between Malloy and Sarah as well as Sarah's parents - I'm hoping this might pave the way for some movement forward. "
— Brianne, 1/19/2014" Gosh, I love this series so much! This was yet another entirely satisfying mystery...even more so than usual, actually. I can't wait till the next book when...stuff happens! "
— Jacqueline, 1/17/2014" My first introduction to the "gaslight" series and I found it delightful. Full of observations of 19th century New York (the city, the attitudes, the mores, the culture) woven into a mystery story with interesting characters. Will definitely read more of the series. "
— Leslie, 12/29/2013" Not great writing but fun mystery. "
— Connie, 12/23/2013" Another good one in this Gaslight Series. The "topic" explored in this one was the sexual abuse of women as well as the plight of people who have been scammed in the stock market. The mystery takes front stage, but in each of these books, Thompson weaves in some important issue. Very enjoyable! "
— Tory, 12/21/2013" A great little mystery series and this one felt like it was moving the story forward, more so than the last few books. Fun, quick read. "
— Alicia, 12/14/2013" Really enjoy this series. Author keeps your interest after all these books. "
— Vince, 12/11/2013" Something needs to happen with their relationship!! It's on eternal hold! "
— Megan, 12/6/2013" The mystery is good but I'm so ready for Sarah and Malloy to just admit they're crazy about each other. Hoping that the stuff that happened in this one set that up to start moving faster than the reverse glacial pace it's been stuck at for a while. "
— Denise, 12/3/2013" My mom and I have continued to read this Victorian mystery series and still enjoy it. Easy read, clean enough for an 86 year old, and interesting twists! "
— Jackie, 11/15/2013" These are enjoyable "easy readers" "
— Marlies, 5/23/2013" At least this time both Sarah & Malloy were mistaken in their 1st few accusations. "
— Eli, 11/30/2012" So sweet. I can't wait to see what happens with Sarah and Frank in the next book! "
— Naticia, 9/12/2012" This story was set in nineteenth century New York and one of the Gaslight Mysteries. Its always fun to continue reading about the characters you have gotten to know. The main character's mother was a delight. "
