The early 1930s were desperate times in America. As the country struggled through the Great Depression, many of its finest young men, unable to find work, turned to begging or stealing to get by. But others began to roam the country, searching for their dreams. Many stories are told about the plight of these young men, but none as touching as the story of Charles Mittens Perkins, who traveled to the Boundary Waters Wilderness of Northern Minnesota in 1931, searching for his dream. " It was a fun read - I'm probably a bit older than the target audience, but I've got to give props to anyone who writes without forcing this novel to be something that it didn't need to be - pretty much just a straightforward adventure story, as if it had been written in 1935. "
