Mirror Image, a complex, erotic novel of suspense, is the first in a series of mysteries featuring Dr. Daniel Rinaldi, a psychologist who consults with the Pittsburgh Police. His specialty is treating victims of violent crime, those who’ve survived an armed robbery or kidnapping but whose traumatic experience still haunts them.
Kevin Merrick, a college student and victim of an armed assault, is one of these people. A fragile, troubled kid desperate for a role model and a sense of identity, Kevin has begun dressing like Rinaldi, acting like him, mirroring his appearance. Before Daniel has a chance to work this through with his patient, he finds Kevin brutally murdered. Stunned, he and the police suspect that he, not Kevin, had been the intended target.
Feeling responsible, Rinaldi is determined to help find the killer, who’s begun leaving death threats for the psychologist. His journey takes him through a labyrinth of friends and colleagues, any one of whom may be the killer. It also includes an affair with a beautiful, free-spirited assistant district attorney with secrets of her own. And when Kevin’s identity as the estranged son of a Bill Gates-like biotech giant is revealed, the investigation of his murder turns into a national story, even as another person turns up dead.

— Dick Lochte, award-winning author and critic" This book screams out to be television series, with Daniel Rinaldi a character viewers will fall in love with--psychologist working with the Pittsburgh police. "
— Kenneth, 12/1/2013" It was okay. There was to much swearing, though, and to many characters to keep track of. "
— Carol, 10/14/2013" Interesting, fresh and unexpected twists. I loved this book. "
— Lucie, 5/27/2013" This is closer to a 2.5 since I kept reading just to find out whodunit. The plot itself was good, but I couldn't stand any of the characters including the protagonist, psychologist Daniel Rinaldi. The fact he fell for the witchy ADA just shows he's not that great a shrink. "
— Karen, 1/25/2013" Slow start, then it got interesting and stayed that way to a satisfactory ending. Surprise ending, too. "
— JoAnn, 10/21/2011" Pittsburgh based book. Way too many hometown references, I was too distracted to enjoy the story. "
— Bob, 8/25/2011" Palumbo needs to refine his skill as a storyteller. He does write a good book with some quirky twists and turns. There is unexpected action. I like his development of the main character. Rinaldi is an interesting guy. "
— Sharon, 4/20/2011" Great pace, interesting characters you care about (most of them), and a twisty plot. All in all, a great story with some fascinating insight into the practices and pitfalls of psychotherapy. "
— Tammy, 4/4/2011" Too much meaningless dialogue. Stereotypic characters. Gratuitous sex. "
— Rudy, 3/16/2011" Slow start, then it got interesting and stayed that way to a satisfactory ending. Surprise ending, too. "
