Publisher Description

Speculative science fiction at its finest, MetaGame by Sam Landstrom is a ‘future gamers’ field guide and a philosophical cyberpunk adventure. In this original and disturbingly irreverent prospective world, gaming is more than a diversion—and gamers are, literally, in it for life. The OverSoul, an enigmatic, unifying force, offers winners points that add up to currency. Reigning champs are given the gift of immortality—while losers are condemned to aging and death. D_Light is one of the best players in his Family and will do anything to win, even if it means committing murder. When he’s invited to a MetaGame—an exclusive, high-stakes competition—he jumps at the chance. But after the first quest, D_Light’s overly ambitious ways brand him a renegade. With a warped sense of freewill that is needed to prevail, D_Light must either kill someone he’s grown to love—or lose everything.

"I don't typically chose a science fiction themed book but I purchased this to read on my Kindle as the description caught my attention and the price was right (I think at the time I paid a $1 to download it). Mr. Landstrom writes a captivating tale of a future life where work amounts to playing in a video game. As a gamer by adding up points you earn credits to purchase clothing, food, and housing. D-Lite is elevated for a move he made in a game and is invited to play with the royals. He becomes wrapped up in playing an intense game, making decisions that will affect him and those around him. He has an emotional breakthrough that endears the reader. The action of the game wrapped up in D-Lite's vulnerability as a human keeps you turning each page."

" It started out a little dystopic, but before long I was entangled in a very interesting world with many fascinating concepts and following a great story. It reminded me a little of Neal Stephenson, though not as wordy. Very enjoyable. "

" Terrific. Like combining the best bits of "Fairyland" and "Ready Player One", but then producing a whole new genre, underpinned by characters you actually care about. Fun and funny, but with something serious to say too. "

" Light and amusing, with a bittersweet ending and a better raison-d'etre than The Matrix. The prose was a bit straightforward but I didn't mind. The handles and avatars made me chuckle and the tone reminded me of Blind Faith. "
