Publisher Description

To the Yaguara, an ancient jaguar shape-shifting people living deep in the Amazon jungle, nothing matters more than strength. Iada is their champion; genetically pure, she has been trained since birth to fight. Her destiny is to become the next Queen of the Yaguara by winning the tournament of succession - a battle to the death.

Her opponent is Gabriel, a half-blooded outcast whose mother was human. To everyone's shock, he defeats Iada but does not strike the death blow - instead, he extends mercy, thereby claiming her as his mate.

Despite their enmity, the attraction between them is powerful, and soon they are mates in more than name only. Their mutual distrust serves only to fuel their passion - two champions bested only by their overpowering desire for each other.

But Gabriel has an agenda that threatens the most basic tenets of Yaguara society - and that will force Iada to choose between her people or her King.

"This is definately my favorite book in the series...well, save for "Shadow Dance". Garwood introduces 'Jordan', the oldest sister, & pairs her w/ 'Noah Claybourne', descendent of "Cole Claybourne" in "For the Roses". "Jordan" is a wonderful character. Brilliant, beautiful w/o knowing it, her naivity is pretty endearing. Garwood really opens up 'Jordan' after the first three older brothers. I just luv the whole family. By the time I reached 'Jordan's' romance, I just wanted to be a 'Buchanan' family. The other thing about 'Jordan', may luv, is her in sticky situations; ie: "dead...wrapped like in a lg. zipperlock bag...I may never eat...again..." or "U've got to be kidding me..." (after she finds the second dead body in her tunk). Julie Garwood is just fabulous for me, I own all the books she's written & I read them over & over & over again. They are simply timeless in my book ;)"

" I really liked this book! This was the third or fourth book I've read by Julie Garwood. She's a good writer. She really pulls you in. I would have loved to have learned more about the mysterious John-Paul. "

" I'm thinking "Mercy" may just be the last Garwood book I read...unless someone can recommend one that can change my mind. The beginning was great, but towards the middle it just got way to unbelievable, yes... everything I read in truth is unbelievable and doesn't really "happen" but that to me is where the writer comes in and makes it very possible... Garwood didn't do that for me. "
