"This is a great book to show kids what a hermit crab is and it has great illustrations! The humor keeps kids involved and it keeps them guessing what will come next. Great to use for creating predictions. I also like to read this book first before reading the story, "Shells" with my 4th grade students."

" How cute is Marcel the Shell?! Plus, it's a fun book to read aloud. "
— Maria, 2/19/2014" I didn't realize that it would be bits straight out of the videos! I loved the videos though, so this was still enjoyable. "
— Raeleen, 1/31/2014" An acquaintance of mine showed me the Marcel the Shell with Shoes on video the other day. It was both creepy and hysterical. She said there was a book, too, so I tracked it down. It's a bit different from the video, but has the same strange charm. Marcel likes himself, has adventures, regrets his lack of a dog, and goes to bread when he gets sleepy. Might be more appealing to adults than to kids, but hey, they'll be in stitches. "
— Karin, 1/29/2014" They really should have reconsidered the font. Nearly illegible in places. "
— Nicole, 1/24/2014" I have no idea what just happened, but I enjoyed it. "
— Cory, 1/23/2014" I just happened to see this on display at my local library and had to check it out. Nothing can top the YouTube videos, but the book was a great reminder of Marcel and his very special personality. "
— Maren, 1/23/2014" I LOVE this book! I read it with my granddaughter and then we watched the youtube video and then we read the book again. It is a delightful children's book that also made this adult smile, big-time. "
— Barbara, 1/22/2014" Two of the things that make the video work are Jenny Slate's voice and the absurdity of Marcel in real world scenes. It could be a better picture book if it either ventured further from the video or resembled it more closely. "
— Laura, 1/15/2014" Maybe it works better as a film. "
— Edward, 1/14/2014" Love this fun book about a hermit crab that has adventure in a home. Would be wonderful for a writing lesson about using another person's point of view. "
— Jillian, 1/2/2014" The best line: "Some people say that my head is too big for my body and then I say ... Compared to what?" "
— Chris, 12/26/2013" Fans of the Marcel the Shell YouTube video will enjoy this book. "
— Rochelle, 12/20/2013" I thought this was just a little strange. "
— Jill, 12/18/2013" I would give this book a higher score, but the text is SO HARD to read. Not reader friendly, at all. The illustrations are fabulous and Marcel exudes personality - once you've been made to squint at the penmanship. "
— Christen, 12/8/2013" Loved Marcel!!! If you enjoyed the book, make sure to watch the short film. Wonderful, A smile for every page! :) "
— Anna, 11/26/2013" This is too funny when read along with the audio from the publishing company's website. Not sure what the kiddos thought, but I was laughing. "
— Nicole, 11/25/2013" The book did contain some little know facts that were not uncovered in the youtube video. I can hear the voice of Marcel as I read this story. And now I hear there is a Marcel the Shell With Shoes On Two. I will have to watch that although the original would be tough to beat. "
— Wendy, 8/10/2013" 36 months - not my kind of read. O seemed a bit more interested than myself but I think we both finished the book wondering why... We could really live without this one. "
— Heather, 3/19/2013" Not really sure what to think of this one. A little wierd and a little creepy. "
— Kerry, 1/27/2013" This book was weird, but I think I like it. "
— Colby, 12/16/2012" I love the videos, but not sure if the idea translates as well to a book. I think Marcel looks kind of scary in the painted style. And I'm not sure kids would really get the fact that he's tiny until a few pages in. "
— Jen, 11/28/2012" This book was sweet and came from very creative minds. My only beef is the illustration team of Lind and Erickson get a teeny tiny shout-out which isn't right- In my opinion (Good Wife) "
— Mary, 11/11/2012" Marcel!!! I love this book just as much as I love the video. I laughed out loud while reading it. It has been the highlight of my day. "
— Meredith, 8/21/2012" so conflicted. I super love Marcel but I didn't love this book at all, which is basically a picture book version of the video. I HATED the font - and can't imagine any kid (are kids the intended audience??) being able to read it. It just falls flat without Jenny Slate's voice I'm afraid. "
— Elisabeth, 6/17/2012" This book was terrible. The dry humor was not funny. The cursive weird lettering would probably be impossible for the ONLY age group that would like this book to even read it. "
— Shelli, 5/29/2012" Those who have seen the video will perhaps appreciate the book more. It is very amusing, especially when you can hear Marcel's voice in your head as you read (the voice from the video). The text was difficult to read at times, and If I found it difficult, I'm positive students would. "
— Lori, 5/26/2012" I love this book! And Layla cracks up every time Marcel says he's gonna go to 'bread' :) "
— Emily, 4/14/2012" If you love Marcel the Shell, you will love this book! I'd highly recommend following the link on the back of the book to be able to listen to Marcel narrate the story. It's just not the same without that voice! "
