"""This funny romp delivers a hefty message for today's girls: The White House is yours for the taking,"" says Kirkus Reviews of Madam President. A confident little girl imagines what her day would be like if she ran the country: There would be executive orders to give, babies to kiss, tuna casseroles to veto, and so much more! Not to mention that recess would definitely require more security. With deadpan wit and hilarious illustrations, best-selling creator Lane Smith introduces readers to an unforgettable new character.""Blends message with medium for maximum delight... Hail to the chief!"" — School Library Journal, starred review""In this sly, witty recitation of a president's responsibilities, a ponytailed girl has the list down pat: give executive orders (to her cat); negotiate treaties (between said cat and dog); kiss babies: and veto, veto, veto."" — Booklist, starred review""A must-have title that will unite both sides of the (lunchroom) aisle."" — The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books"Download and start listening now!
"Best book from last week's trip to the library. Our main character dreams of being President and spends her day imagining what it will be like and practicing for the future. This includes keeping the peace and negotiating treaties on the playground and appointing a cabinet made up of her favorite toys. I am generally in love with books that tell little girls that they can grow up to be anything and this is definitely one to add to that shelf."

“A sly, witty recitation of a president’s responsibilities…Although there’s some winking at adults, this book is very much for kids, who might even come away having learned a bit about presidential duties.”
— Booklist (starred review)" For my Children's Literature class: I thought this book was really cute and absolutely fell in love with it. If I end up teaching a lower grade, I would love to pull this in as a read-aloud somewhere. "
— Kelly, 1/18/2014" I really enjoyed this book about a girl imagining what it would be like to be the President. There is some humor in this book that some of my younger elementary students didn't get, so I would use this as a cool introduction to the Presidency with upper elementary students in grades 4-5. "
— Jen, 10/31/2013" A bit disappointing (I expected more!) but cute nonetheless "
— K, 10/18/2013" Lane Smith is always a hoot! This book is a great way to introduce young kids to the roll of the president, while cracking them up. FUN! "
— Marie, 10/5/2013" Would have given it another star if the character hadn't rejected Little House on the Prairie with such vehement & multitudinous veto's. Don't knock Little House! :) "
— donewithdora, 9/25/2013" Very sweet! Hope to see a Madam President in my lifetime! "
— Pauline, 9/20/2013" A young girl imagines her life to being the president. Cute picture book. "
— Cindy, 9/1/2013" This was a good book! The artwork was great and looked to be a mixture of mediums. I enjoyed the idea of "Madam President." However, it was less of a story and more of a list of responsibilities. This would be a good introduction for kids to learn about the responsibilities of the President. "
— Samantha, 8/16/2013" I loved this book! What a cute way to teach kids about the president and his/her duties. I laughed out loud at a few parts -- especially the Secret Service agent hiding in the park -- and loved that this book introduces kids to challenging but useful vocabulary. The pictures are also amazing! "
— Anna, 7/18/2013" Great take on a child-president with Lane's trademark humorous illustrations. This is one of those "funnier-to-adults-than-kids" books but any child with even a slight interest in presidents and their job will probably enjoy this. "
— Beth, 6/13/2013" This is a very cute story! It gives descriptions of president's duties in a funny way. I liked the lay out of the book. "
— Dianne, 4/1/2013" Light hearted funny take on a child's perspective of the presidency. "
— Christina, 3/25/2013" This is a cute, short story to help explain all of the many duties the president has; with a comical twist - a young child (girl) is pretending to be president and carry out the many duties. This would be helpful when teaching about our president's job. "
— Season, 1/29/2013" Let's just say I would hate to be a lesbian President of the US. This was a fun, quirky book that could certainly be taken very seriously during the times that count. I enjoyed it though I wish there was more to the sex scenes ;) "
— Corvida, 1/18/2013" i most enjoyed her Cabinet - i'm applying for Secretary of Naps. :) "
— melanie, 1/10/2013" I thought it was really cute, but it was too much irony for the kids. "
— Deanna, 12/6/2012" Need to know the responsibilities of presidency to laugh here aka older intermediate readers but seemed a bit young for the age group. And while it was pretty cute for me as an adult reading it, I'm not sure how much children will take to it. One for the Smith fans. "
— Nicole, 10/24/2012" Lindsey learned what Veto means. "
— Sonia, 8/6/2012" Very cute book to teach what a veto is and the president's responsibilities. "
— Mrs., 6/19/2012" I love Lane Smith's illustrations and this book does not disappoint. The story was cute but the illustrations outshone the tale. "
— Amberly, 6/12/2012" This is a funny book but the author incorporates the different tasks the President has to accomplish. The students would really enjoy reading this book during election time. The teacher could have them write how they would run the school. "
— Trisha, 5/6/2012" Awesome! Fun, educational story with great illustrations and an excellent sense of graphic design. "
— Bobby, 4/16/2012" This book describes the duties of the president through the eyes of a child. It has a lot of humor in the text and in the pictures. "
— Sara, 4/2/2012" This is a great story about a girl that imagines that she is president. It parallels the actual offices in the White House and what the president does. Good introduction to politics and the presidents role in the United States. "
