Kevin left behind a chance at the NBA to coach delinquents, but his toughest assignment is to find a girl who won’t make his mama’s church group fall into praying mode. A teacher and a poet, Antoine can make a sister feel beautiful or want to beat him with a blow dryer. Tyrone has talent, a bad attitude, and a crush on his boss’ wife. And Maurice is all that, if that means rude, arrogant, and dishonest.

Kevin’s got the looks. Antoine’s got heart and soul. Tyrone’s got the skills. And Maurice has got layer moves. They’ve got it all, except for the one thing that matters most, the love of a good woman. What they find when they call 1-900 Black Luv is a riotous trip through religious freaks, hootchie mamas, chicken heads, gold diggers, and some serious Brides of Funkenstein. One thing’s for certain when you play the game of love, you’ve got to be ready for anything.

Quotes & Awards

  • “A funny, affectionate, and stirring romance aimed at convincing readers that although the road to true love is rocky, it’s still worth traversing.”

    Booklist

  • “Filled with entertainment…Will have you laughing from the beginning to the end.”

    Kimberla Lawson Roby
  • “Some advice to the lovelorn: be really careful of them 900 numbers. The three protagonists in Carl Weber’s obnoxiously funny novel could have used that advice, but then we would have missed out on a truly entertaining read.”

    Black Issues Book Review

  • “Kevin Free’s narration is so authentic that listeners will feel they’re eavesdropping on intimate conversations, or somehow channeling these men’s erotic fantasies.”

" This is an oldie but goodie that I have read multiple times. It centers around 4 men who work at the same high school and are (as the name states) looking for love. The story that follows includes plenty of drama but comedy too. Without a doubt this book is an easy read that you'll enjoy. "

" Good solid book by Carl Weber but the back of it certain hyped up the drama to the point of me expecting more adventures. Was surprised that the one who "played" the most was the emotionally unavailable one. Nice quick read! "

" For the most part, it was a good story... if you can get past the author's serious lack of sensitivity toward transsexuals and his disdain for interracial relationships. I, for one, am incensed by his attitude. This was my first and will be my last book by this author. "
