Publisher Description

Based on real events and in large part on real people, this is the story of some of the men who fought, the women who waited, and the villains who lurked during the seven years of brutal warfare, sacrifice, intrigues and betrayals that was the American Revolution. When General George Washington asks General Lachlan McIntosh of Georgia to come north to serve in the Continental Army, the two McIntosh daughters with two of their slaves, Dugan and Selena, head north to Valley Forge to keep house for their father during winter camp. Also wintering in Pennsylvania is Lachlan's longtime close friend Henry Laurens, who will be the President of the Continental Congress and whose son, John is an aide-de-camp to Washington. For the remaining five years of the war they will be buffeted back and forth between Pennsylvania and the south by the ever-shifting fortunes of a war they are determined to win.

The men and women in this story are only a handful of countless others whose sacrifice and perseverance in the face of seemingly hopeless odds created the United States of America. But also because of a few of them, the seeds were sown for a civil war that would within a century threaten to destroy the new nation.
