"This book is very fun and interactive and could be used for a read aloud ! It would be great for a Halloween book and educational for making predictions since it is very repetitive ! It also can me used for onomanapeia because it has the different objects making different noises !"

“The catchy refrain never falters, and the rhythmic repeated sounds made by each of the woman’s pursuers are sure to appeal to children. A great purchase for Halloween or any time of the year, and a must for both school and public libraries.”
— School Library Journal" My son got this as a Halloween gift from preschool. It's written in a way that makes it easy for kids to read along and anticipate what the next lines will be. A fun seasonal read aloud. "
— Sharla, 2/19/2014" This book was cute for waht it was about. Obviously this book is meant for a younger reader but I figured I would try it out. I could tell just how young kids would enjoy this book, as it has the small words to build on as the story moves on. Children tend to enjoy these books more because they are able to keep up with the story easier. quick little read but great for kids. "
— Chris, 2/18/2014" I love to read this out loud to my students because tehy get so excited to do the clomp, clomp, smack, smack as I am reading it. This would be a great flannel board story as well as building teh scarecrow as you read the story. "
— Sydney, 2/15/2014" As an old woman is walking through the woods she begins hearing noises: the stomp of boots, the swish of a shirt. She turns to find the clothing items following her on her way home, but not matter what she turns to find none of it scares her. Finally, when they all knock on her door late at night she thinks of the perfect job that will allow them to scare. My professor used this one as a read aloud in our Early Childhood Materials class and it was a great one. It's easy to make it interactive by stomping, swishing, and booing along. The pictures are a little small and the illustrations are dated, but it's still a fun way to read about Halloween. If you're reading to a group, it would probably work best with a smaller group due to the small size. This is also a good one to read if you have anyone who objects to Halloween since that word is never used in the book. "
— Laura, 2/10/2014" Great book for Halloween time - or anytime! "
— Kristi, 1/27/2014" Great for Halloween and reading aloud. Dad read it to Jack this morning, and a good time was had by all. Jack's really enjoyed the repetitive verbs and onomatopoeia. "
