After losing his wife and young daughter in a plane crash, US journalist Fletcher Carson joins the flagging war effort in Vietnam, where he plans to die. But when he rescues a critically wounded Labrador, whom he names Jack, and helps nurse him back to life, Fletcher slowly regains the will to live.

But the ceasefire brings with it news that no dogs serving with the US will be transported home. But Fletcher knows that if he abandons Jack, he will be lost too. Download and start listening now!

" good book about the dogs in vietnam...cried and cried at the end..and of course I read it at work..(stupid me)I should have finished it at home. "

" Too bad the lack of credulity of the supporting elements don't match the appeal of the core story. "

" Excellent read,,, first Vietnam book I have been able to read since Randy died... This is another example of stupid wars. "

" A lovely read which makes one realise how much dogs are part of our lives and what they mean to so many. But also how war has treated them too! A pity that the story-line gets just a little too strange to believe at times as mostly it really is gripping, just not enough to make one feel it is a real life story. The writing is simple and I like it. "

" While I feel that some of the material wrapped up too cleanly I still found it a worthy read. Being a sucker for dog stories the bond between the two felt true enough. Even if I did find myself sometimes aggravated with the lead. "

" The premise was a good one, bringing awareness of the awesome dogs who served in the war, but I thought the storyline 'jumped the shark' several times, into the realm of unbelievable. "

" A novel about a man who has lost his wife & only daughter, doesn't care if he lives or dies; so he enlists to go to Vietnam where he hooks up with a Labrador Retriever. It is a great book for a dog lover. Hal got it through Readers Digest. "

I told them yes and said I was reading a book. This is one I recommend. I have read it twice and my father have all read it. Th is is a must read. "

" This was an incredible story. At first I was not sure if I wanted to read it because it was about the Vietnam war and the dogs the military used. I was concerned that it would upset me. But, this was an awesome story of love and commitment man to dog and dog to man. Very well written. "

I only wish I had read the non-condensed version. "
