Publisher Description

Amid the shifting world of San Francisco flea markets, shady vendors sell junk, precious antiques, and stolen goods side by side. Somewhere in the mix, a priceless collection of sacred Torah scrolls is gathering dust—and attracting a group of fanatical killers. When private investigator Sharon McCone helps one flea market kingpin fend off a stalker, she's drawn into the netherworld of deal-making and thievery, a dangerous milieu seldom seen by outsiders. For her client Willie Whelan, the sidewalk sales are a game: trick the customer, outsell the competition, and stay one step ahead of the cops. But Willie's enemies have something more sinister in mind—a conspiracy so heinous it threatens the religious artifacts, Willie's freedom, and McCone's life.

"Traditional mystery story. This is the 5th (1984?)in the Sharon McCone series, one of the first female private detectives written as a primary protagonist. I felt this was the best one of the series so far. Enough plot twists to keep you guessing without making a muddle of the storyline."

— Chris (4 out of 5 stars)

" Odd and interesting assortment of characters including a fence, orthodox jews, and super militia renegades all searching for stolen torahs. Sharon gets snatched and almost loses her latest boyfriend, disc jockey Don. Learning the outcome of the romance kept me reading as much as the mystery plot. "

" Sharon McCone has changed over the course of this series, but not in a negative way--she has maintained her ties with those who helped her out in the beginning, and as she has aged, there have been more complications in her life, as you would expect. Good series well worth reading "
