Publisher Description

"I enjoyed these short stories much more than I thought I would. I really liked the Robert Downey Jr. movies and was pleasantly surprised at how closely they seemed to cast his role to that of Doyle's Sherlock.Sometimes movie renditions of literary characters are way off the mark."

" Overall entertaining. Each chapter is a stand alone story with few references to each other. The Homes of the novel is barely recognizable in most of the television and movie adaptations. The stories are clever, the mysteries are engaging, and the action is usually omitted. What is a little curious that the villein(s) occasionally escape. Rare for the genre; but it does happen. Sometimes, there is not even a villein, so the novel is more original and clever than many mystery books and dramas that grace American bookstores and televisions. "

About Arthur Conan Doyle

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859–1930) was born of Irish parentage in Scotland. He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh, but he also had a passion for storytelling. His first book introduced that prototype of the modern detective in fiction, Sherlock Holmes. Despite the immense popularity Holmes gained throughout the world, Doyle was not overly fond of the character and preferred to write other stories. Eventually popular demand won out and he continued to satisfy readers with the adventures of the legendary sleuth. He also wrote historical romances and made two essays into pseudoscientific fantasy: The Lost World and The Poison Belt.
