Publisher Description

Ella Brown is unhappy. Shivering cold in her luxurious bed, she's afraid to get up and light the fire, because she's recently been scolded for doing things servants are supposed to do. New to the castle, Ella is having trouble adjusting to her unfamiliar role: Princess. In this wonderful continuation of the Cinderella story, award-winning author Margaret Haddix imagines a heroine who has gotten what she wants, not through some fairy godmother's magical intervention, but by taking control of her own destiny. The trouble is, now that her dreams are coming true, Ella has serious doubts about what "happily ever after" really means. Just Ella offers young adult listeners a very contemporary take on one of the most beloved fairy tales of all time. Narrator Alyssa Bresnahan magically brings life and depth to Ella, who is determined to act on her heart's desires-even when they take her in unexpected directions.

"I really liked this spin on the Cinderella story. It really pulled you into the story and showed you what might have happened if Cinderella realized her "Prince Charming" was nothing but a dull and boring prince. The only thing that bothered me is the ending. It was left wide open and far as a know there is no sequel so you never know if Ella ever found her happily ever after."

" A girl-power version of Cinderella. Prince Charming isn't such a great guy. Ella falls in love with the young tutor that she can actually talk to. When she tries to break the engagement, there are problems.... but they all live happily ever after. "

" This book reminded me alot of the book, "Ella,". A fun twist to the Cinderella story, and the ending was a real surprise. I really liked the latter part of the book best. "

" This was a fun read in what I would call the "modern-day Princess" genre. It's Cinderella who isn't this flaky love-struck girl, but rather woman trying to make her own fate and finding a guy much more suitable than Prince Charming. It's along the lines of a "Goose Girl" or "Ella Enchanted." "

" I love this no-nonsense Ella, who changes her life in all dire circumstances. She's a little thick-headed at some moments, but I could never survive until either of her unbearable lives. She learns to overcome and live on her own terms. "

" I always have a soft spot for fairytales. Always have and this book made my day when I read it. Chinderella was one of the fairytales I didin't enjoy very much, and with the twist on the coupling in it was amazing. Something I squealed over and got hushed in class for- I don't regret it! "

" I read this when I was around 10 and nearly 10 years later, I can still remember parts of the story. Yup, I loved it. And I really don't understand why adults are reading this. Leave it to the kiddies and go read some novels recommended for your age. Better than insulting children books, you know. "
