Ella Brown is unhappy. Shivering cold in her luxurious bed, she's afraid to get up and light the fire because she's recently been scolded for doing things servants are supposed to do. New to the castle, Ella is having trouble adjusting to her unfamiliar role: princess.

In this wonderful continuation of the Cinderella story, award-winning author Margaret Haddix imagines a heroine who has gotten what she wants, not through some fairy godmother's magical intervention, but by taking control of her own destiny. The trouble is, now that her dreams are coming true, Ella has serious doubts about what happily ever after really means.

Just Ella offers young adult listeners a very contemporary take on one of the most beloved fairy tales of all time. Narrator Alyssa Bresnahan magically brings life and depth to Ella, who is determined to act on her heart's desires - even when they take her in unexpected directions. " I really liked this spin on the Cinderella story. It really pulled you into the story and showed you what might have happened if Cinderella realized her "Prince Charming" was nothing but a dull and boring prince. The only thing that bothered me is the ending. It was left wide open and far as a know there is no sequel so you never know if Ella ever found her happily ever after. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Nicole | 2/5/2014

" A girl-power version of Cinderella. Prince Charming isn't such a great guy. Ella falls in love with the young tutor that she can actually talk to. When she tries to break the engagement, there are problems.... but they all live happily ever after. "

" This book reminded me alot of the book, "Ella,". A fun twist to the Cinderella story, and the ending was a real surprise. I really liked the latter part of the book best. "

" Another Cinderella story? I don't think so! Cinderella refusing "Prince Charming," but can she find a happily-ever-after to her story? "

" I'm reading different reworkings of Cinderella stories, but couldn't get into this one and only got about halfway. The main character annoyed me. "

" Prince Charming isnt always what you want, just keep looking and youl find that special someone right under your nose "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Laura | 1/4/2014

" This was a fun read in what I would call the "modern-day Princess" genre. It's Cinderella who isn't this flaky love-struck girl, but rather woman trying to make her own fate and finding a guy much more suitable than Prince Charming. It's along the lines of a "Goose Girl" or "Ella Enchanted." "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Sierra | 12/27/2013

" I love this no-nonsense Ella, who changes her life in all dire circumstances. She's a little thick-headed at some moments, but I could never survive until either of her unbearable lives. She learns to overcome and live on her own terms. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Meghan | 12/16/2013

" I really enjoyed this book. I always wondered what Cinderella would do if she found out she wasn't really in love with Prince Charming. This book answered that question for me. "

" I found it sorta werid at the begging..but the fight she had with the prince cracked me up! When she escaped was good. But then the ending was quite dry and not satisfying.. "

" This was a really cute and interesting retelling of Cinderella... a kind of what-happened-afterward story... A what if all was not as awesome as it seemed... I really liked how Ella took charge of her own life and was a strong woman, even when all the women around her totally sucked.... :) "

" I always have a soft spot for fairytales. Always have and this book made my day when I read it. Chinderella was one of the fairytales I didin't enjoy very much, and with the twist on the coupling in it was amazing. Something I squealed over and got hushed in class for- I don't regret it! "

" I read this when I was around 10 and nearly 10 years later, I can still remember parts of the story. Yup, I loved it. And I really don't understand why adults are reading this. Leave it to the kiddies and go read some novels recommended for your age. Better than insulting children books, you know. "
