During a time when black foreign preachers were banned from South Africa and branded as trouble-makers, Joshua Clay, a twenty-four-year-old preacher and level-headed leader, is sent to South Africa as a missionary to “civilize” the Africans. And as a young black man in the 1930s, Joshua knows this is a remarkable opportunity.
However, as he sets off on his journey with the many expectations of those at home weighing heavily on him, Joshua is unaware of the changes that lie ahead. Slowly, Joshua falls in love with the people, the country, and, much to his surprise, a South African woman.
