Orphaned into the household of her Aunt Reed at Gateshead and subject to the cruel regime at Lowood charity school, Jane Eyre nonetheless emerges unbroken in spirit and integrity. She takes up the post of governess at Thornfield Hall, falls in love with Mr. Rochester, and discovers the impediment to their lawful marriage in a story that transcends melodrama to portray a woman's passionate search for a richer life than that traditionally allowed women in Victorian society.
With a heroine full of yearning, the dangerous secrets she encounters, and the choices she finally makes, Charlotte Brontë's innovative and enduring romantic novel continues to engage and provoke.

"I read this book about 5-6 years ago and LOVED it. Its a slow start but as you get to know the characters and the story goes on its easy to be sucked in. Its a love story that is original. I really enjoy this story and would encourage everyone to read it. However, if you do not like "older" style of writing, or tales that take place before the 20th century, I wouldn't recommend this classic." — Steph (5 out of 5 stars)

" Definitely one of my absolute favorite books. This is my second time reading it and I forgot just how much I like each part. "
" So great a re read. Highly recommend. Jane is so gutsy and yeah I'm sorry spunky. "
" I read this when I was a young teenager and loved it. I read it again a few years ago and time hasn't changed anything. I still love this book. Mr Rochester is one of the best classic romantic heroes as far as I'm concerned. "
" What can I say! This is my favorite book - had so many papaerback copies that maybe I should just buy one in hardbacl that will last! "
" I loved the complexity of the story. I initially had trouble getting into it, but once I adjusted to the language, it was hard to put down. "
" Not a "read-in-a-day" book and not something written for casual skimmers. Keep reading through the dry parts and you will feel like you are with the characters as much as they are with you. The ending was so amazing it brought me to tears. Must read on a road trip. "
" I finally read this classic and couldn't put it down. Loved everything about it. Saw the movie afterwards and made it even better. "
" It took me a while to enter the world of Jane Eyre. I enjoyed the headstrong Jane and found the cold and saintly St. John remarkably familiar. I am surprised I missed this growing up; still worth the reading. "
" It was a little to wordy in some places but overall a great book. "
" One of the best books I have ever read! Can't praise it highly enough! "
" Love everything about this book. "
" My favorite book of all time. "
" Love this book, it's kinda like a gothic Pride and Prejudice with a little Oliver Twist thrown in. "
" One of my favorites. I first read it in 5th or 6th grade so there is a story there for everyone. "
" We came to the conclusion that they are called classics for a reason...so it is with 'Jane Eyre'...strangely haunting and intriguing. "
" I've only read it 10 times...maybe 12. In my opinion its a lot faster and lighter than Wuthering Heights but I prefer it over Austen novels and the like. It's been a favorite of mine for awhile. "
" Loved this book. I think this is my new favorite. "
" A classic well worth reading :) "
" I cry every time I read this book. Jane is so real and passionate. I love how this story takes you on a journey. You truly feel like you have lived Jane's life once you have finished the book. "
" Simply put, one of the best books of the English language. "
" Great book! Enticing and funny! Must read of summer 2013 "
