Orphaned into the household of her Aunt Reed at Gateshead and subject to the cruel regime at Lowood charity school, Jane Eyre nonetheless emerges unbroken in spirit and integrity. She takes up the post of governess at Thornfield Hall, falls in love with Mr. Rochester, and discovers the impediment to their lawful marriage in a story that transcends melodrama to portray a woman's passionate search for a richer life than that traditionally allowed women in Victorian society.

With a heroine full of yearning, the dangerous secrets she encounters, and the choices she finally makes, Charlotte Brontë's innovative and enduring romantic novel continues to engage and provoke. Download and start listening now!

" I read this book about 5-6 years ago and LOVED it. Its a slow start but as you get to know the characters and the story goes on its easy to be sucked in. Its a love story that is original. I really enjoy this story and would encourage everyone to read it. However, if you do not like "older" style of writing, or tales that take place before the 20th century, I wouldn't recommend this classic. "

" I read this when I was a young teenager and loved it. I read it again a few years ago and time hasn't changed anything. I still love this book. Mr Rochester is one of the best classic romantic heroes as far as I'm concerned. "

" Not a "read-in-a-day" book and not something written for casual skimmers. Keep reading through the dry parts and you will feel like you are with the characters as much as they are with you. The ending was so amazing it brought me to tears. Must read on a road trip. "

" It took me a while to enter the world of Jane Eyre. I enjoyed the headstrong Jane and found the cold and saintly St. John remarkably familiar. I am surprised I missed this growing up; still worth the reading. "
