"Most of the leadership books I read deal with theory, which is great but tends to have the same information repeated throughout books. I really like Colin Powell's book because this deals with practice, not just theory, and it has more original content since it's so personal to his life."

" A great American and his story. While I've disagreed with his politics, I admire GEN Powell's devotion to service of his country. Veterans and active-duty servicemen and women will enjoy many of his stories and observations of life while in uniform. "

" Very disappointed ... I thought this would be one of my favorites, and although he told some interesting stories, he seemed to contradict himself on what he wanted out of a subordinate. For example, a leader should be one who can recognize and solve an issue on his own before it becomes a problem and in the next example he would say as a leader he wanted to know all the facts as soon as they were discovered. I did like that he put a lot of trust in those at the bottom and gave them opportunity to advance. Not my favorite read. "
