In her new book Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns), Mindy Kaling excels at telling stories and facts about her life that every woman can relate to.
Mindy's book offers insight into the mind of a woman who has led a very interesting life, with a little bit of humor mixed in. She talks about what it was like growing up with professional parents who were immigrants, and other early stories from when she was growing up. Then she dives into the many hats she's worn in her professional career.
As always, Mindy isn't afraid to give her thoughts on a variety of issues that are plaguing women today. Things like, what traits come together to create someone who is a "best friend", and, how do you go about finding the perfect guy. Mindy's many thoughts and rants are delightfully engaging, and they will definitely leave you a converted fan of this ultra-talented writer and actress, if you weren't one already.
Mindy's narration gives the book a warm feeling, and you'll enjoy her wild and crazy tales from the depths of her earliest memories to her successful acting career.
Mindy Kaling currently stars in and produces her own show, The Mindy Project, on Fox. A few of her professional accolades include a spot on The Office, which she also wrote scripts for. One episode of The Office, entitled "Niagara", which was co-written by Mindy along with Greg Daniels, was nominated for an Emmy. She continues to be a celebrated comedic talent, and it's hard to say where we'll see her end up next. However, we do know that Mindy is good at keeping us laughing, and that's a trend we expect to continue.
"I really enjoyed listening to this audio book on my commute. Mindy is down-to-earth funny. I appreciated her confidence very much and enjoyed getting to know her and the journey she made to her comedy writer dream job. A very fun book by a classy, funny, confident gal."
— Angela (4 out of 5 stars)
Mindy Kaling has lived many lives: the obedient child of immigrant professionals, a timid chubster afraid of her own bike, a Ben Affleck–impersonating Off-Broadway performer and playwright, and, finally, a comedy writer and actress prone to starting fights with her friends and coworkers with the sentence “Can I just say one last thing about this, and then I swear I’ll shut up about it?”
Perhaps you want to know what Mindy thinks makes a great best friend (someone who will fill your prescription in the middle of the night), or what makes a great guy (one who is aware of all elderly people in any room at any time and acts accordingly), or what is the perfect amount of fame (so famous you can never get convicted of murder in a court of law), or how to maintain a trim figure (you will not find that information in these pages). If so, you’ve come to the right book, mostly!
In Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?, Mindy invites readers on a tour of her life and her unscientific observations on romance, friendship, and Hollywood, with several conveniently placed stopping points for you to run errands and make phone calls. Mindy Kaling really is just a Girl Next Door—not so much literally anywhere in the continental United States, but definitely if you live in India or Sri Lanka.
