"This book starts out a little rough. Despite the fact that I apparently read the re-edited/remastered version the first few chapters contained some conspicuous editing and continuity errors. I didn't give up on it though, and I am glad that I did not, because most of these errors disappeared as the book progressed and the story built momentum. It just got better the further that I read, until at the end it was pulse-pounding, page turning military science fiction as good as any that I have read. If you like John Ringo, Elizabeth Moon or David Weber buy this book, read it and stick with it past the initial glitches. I guarantee that you wont be sorry that you did."

" I don't read a lot of straight up space fairing Sci-Fi. This book has changed that at least a little. Being an ex-Navy man, reading this book felt 'real'. I don't know if Even has any nautical experience, but he was able to make the descriptions of ship-board life feel right and reminded me of many a General Quarters drill. The action and suspense was balanced well, and I really can't wait to find out more of the history of this universe and who the different groups of Humans were separated. What is the Path that Earth dwellers seem to have forgotten and what are the Drasin really up to? "
— Rob, 2/16/2014" Very good, engaging and entertaining, space opera at its best "
— Don, 2/9/2014" If you are a fan of science fiction, as I am, this is a not bad. It does read so far like a little bit formulaic. "

— Randy, 12/23/2013" In the military sci-fi tradition. Not quite up there with R. Heinlein and E. Moon but enjoyable. A new type of spaceship, fresh from Earth wars leaves our solar system ann.d discovers other "humans" under attack. Starship Troopers meets S.T. the Next Ge "
— HBalikov, 12/19/2013" I liked this book. I'll definitely pick up the second one at some point. There are a lot of unanswered questions at the end of this book and I need to know the answers. "
— Alastair, 12/12/2013" A different, but good take on some of the more common sci fi tech stuff. A very nice first encounter story with likable characters and an engaging plot line. I really want Even to write another in this series soon! "
— Gary, 12/11/2013" Standard space opera. Has soldiers in a bug war, space planes for dogfights, and a spaceship that works as a battleship-aircraft carrier-submarine. Characters are stock with the military their only life. Plotting is great; the action keeps the pages turning. Readable. "
— Kenny, 12/11/2013" Great book. I would have given it 5 stars but it had swearing in the last 1/3 of the book. "
— Natalie, 11/29/2013" Like a novelized BSG. Space and ground military action on an exploration mission far from home. Ton of fun. "
— Scott, 11/3/2013" Space opera with pretty good hard science. I will read the next in the series. "
— Allen, 9/5/2013" Nice sci-fi exploration story with space battles thrown in for good measure. The descriptions of light-speed travel was particularly interesting. This book is a first in a series. "
— Greg, 8/24/2013" Great book, and great story, "
— Poul, 8/15/2013" The first few chapters need work. The individual characters need more challenges. Good series start. Only Scifi junkies need apply. "
— Toby, 4/27/2013" Why did I even start this "
— Padraic, 9/19/2012" If you like great Military Science Fiction, this is for you. Good plot, good characters, and great battle sequences. "
— Barry, 8/24/2012" For a new author, this work was excellent. It was a little rough around the edges, but very enjoyable. For those who like military sci-fi action, Odyssey One will be right up your alley. I'm definitely looking forward to the sequel. "
