"Just finished this book at midnight and it brought me to tears many times. I remember this event in college and reading in more details the horror the Burnhams went thru for one year in the jungle captured by terrorists was incredible. Seeing how Grace dealt with this ordeal honestly encouraged my heart and showed me how GREAT my God still is even in the midst of suffering. Go read it now!"

" I read this when Bryn was a baby and couldn't put it down. Amazing story. "
— Shiloh, 2/13/2014" True story of a missionary couple who are kidnapped. This is definitely an amazing book. If you are a religious person I would highly recommend this book. The strength that this couple has is tremendous. "
— Dana, 2/12/2014" Another good biography. Gripping true story that held my attention. Sad but real ending. "
— Lena, 1/31/2014" Excellent read! A true testament to grace, dignity and faith. "
— Constance, 1/28/2014" Very tragic yet inspiring ture story. "
— Cara, 1/23/2014" Good reading, but I didn't feel the depth of terror and suffering the Burnham's must have gone through. I did appreciate the honesty and lack of piety Gracia showed in some instances. It made her very human. "
— Terri, 1/23/2014" Yikes! I have a lot of mixed feelings about how the ordeal turned out in the end. Although Gracia is brutally honest about her failings, she is still so much more forgiving than I would be. I think there is a special place in Hell for terrorists. Yes, you read me right--I said Hell. "
— Mary, 1/16/2014" I actually listened to this book on CD and it was narrated by the author. This is the true story of a missionary couple's kidnapping, being held captive and living from day to day never knowing if they'd ever make it back to the US to be with their kids. Their love, courage and faith were tested beyond imagination! "
— Debby, 1/15/2014" An excellent book of two American missionaries who were captured in the jungles of the Philippines by a Muslim terrorist group. "
— Steve, 1/8/2014" Gracia is a wonderful example of strength. Her description of their capture and kidnapping is heart wrenching. It's a book I like to share to with others. I also was able to hear her speak at Moody in Chicago years ago, that was amazing. "
— Vsachleben, 12/27/2013" Very compelling account that challenged me spiritually. "
— Manda, 12/2/2013" It's a tense story with a great selection of details from captivity. Emotionally moving and spiritually uplifting. "
— Kurt, 11/5/2013" Good book. Amazing what God got the Burnhams through. Not the best written book but I like that Gracia's honesty in the book about her struggles and how God brought her through it. "
— Scott, 7/2/2013" Not great writing but a worthwhile story. "
— Catherine, 6/2/2013" God will see us through if we only give HIM our full trust. GOD is in control. Never lose your faith in HIM. "
— Jun, 1/7/2013" Just finished this book. I cried several times throughout it. As a missionary, it has challenged me: facing the same circumstances, will my faith stand? My prayerful answer is 'yes'. "
— Susan, 12/10/2012" Very good, touching and horrible all at the same time. "
— Sarah, 9/5/2012" While the book presents many spiritual questions and meat for great discussions on God's will and the suffering of His saints, it was not well written and therefore difficult to enjoy. "
— Malia, 6/23/2012" This is an awesome book about the life of Gracia Burnham when she and her husband were kidnapped by the Abu Sayyaf a few years ago. She has tremendous joy in the midst of trial. What a great testimony to how we should live. "
— Jodi, 6/18/2012" I enjoyed this book. It just amazes me how close they were to their captors and how their captors viewed the situation. Amazing story. "
— Lynda, 5/26/2012" I enjoyed this book a lot. It was simple and intriguing. It's surrounded around religion, but at the same time Gracia does a great job of no "shoving it down your throat." "
— Heidi, 4/21/2012" I want to meet this woman! "
— Lauren, 11/7/2011" Gracia and one of my special friends were missionaries together in the Philippines, so this book had a very special significance to me. Incredible story. "
— Marilyn, 8/31/2011" Great story but I already knew a lot of it before I read the book. Easy read but boring at times because it's the day-to-day life of being in captivity. "
— Suzy, 8/4/2011" I understood her point of view, but there was too much complaining in there for my liking. "
— Sarah, 3/21/2011" Interesting. I was living in Kansas when the Burnhams were kidnapped and then Gracia was rescued, but I didn't understand what it was all about (so now I do). "
— Julie, 2/19/2011" This is a book that I never would have read had it not been a bookclub selection. The writing was elementary, but I found the main characters to be very likable & interesting. It was interesting to read about lives so different than my own. "
— Christine, 2/9/2011" It is amazing to me how two highly religious, different groups of people live, behave, act, treat others, according to their beliefs. The missionaries and the terrorists react to each situation so opposite and justify each action based on their religion. I highly recommend this book. "
— Kristy, 1/18/2011" Oh my goodness, I never expected this book to grip my heart like it did. A life changing book for me. This couple went through so very much while in captivity. Their faith in God is what got them through this horrible ordeal. I strongly suggest to all to read this. "
— Ruth, 7/28/2010" Wonderful story of missionaries. My first real life missonary story I read. "
— Amy, 7/20/2010" Great story but I already knew a lot of it before I read the book. Easy read but boring at times because it's the day-to-day life of being in captivity. "
