The first book ever from an icon of American comedy -- a hilarious combination of stories from his career and observations about life
That stammer. Those basset-hound eyes. That bone-dry wit. There has never been another comedian like Bob Newhart. His comedy albums, movies, and two hit television series have made him a national treasure and placed him firmly in the pantheon of comedy legends. Who else has a drinking game named after him And now, at last, Newhart puts his brilliant and hysterical world view on paper.
Never a punch-line comic, always more of a storyteller, he tells anecdotes from throughout his life and career, including his beginnings as an accountant and the groundbreaking success of his comedy albums and The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart, which gave him fifteen years on primetime television. And he also gives his wry, comedic twist to a multitude of topics, including golf, drinking, and family holidays.
Today, Newhart appears on Desperate Housewives, in hit movies such as Elf, and in theaters around the country. Reruns of his shows air constantly on Nick at Nite -- have recently been released with great success for the first time ever on DVD. With this book, Bob Newhart gives his millions of fans a first ever opportunity to sample his unique brand of humor -- including excerpts from some of his classic routines -- on the printed page.

"Bob Newhart is great to listen to which I highly recommend doing with this book. While I'm sure the book would have still been good to read, I think listening to the audiobook in his own voice added something extra special to it. The book is part biography, part bits of some of his more popular routines. It's interesting and funny and was a thoroughly enjoyable read/listen."

" Bob Newhart is very funny and very old, these facts are both evident in this book. "
— Molly, 2/20/2014" I listened to this book which is narrated by the author. I think that fact made it so much more authentic. Newhart is truly a funny, unassuming comic. Really a fun trip down memory lane. "
— Paul, 2/15/2014" This book is a really wonderful read. Newhart presents himself as such a likeable guy, I was perfectly happy to wander with him as he negotiates the entertainment industry and builds a career. A bit of a disappointment, however, it that many of his routines are reprinted verbatim. So, if you are familiar with those, the book looses about 25% of its volume. "
— Eldaa, 2/15/2014" I grew up watching Bob Newhart and he's always been a comedian that I love. This book was a short blip of his very successful life and it really felt like he was talking to you over coffee. Not stuffy, not boring, and definitely full of funny bits. My favorite parts were the routines that he included- so funny! "
— Sara, 2/10/2014" Wasn't as much name dropping in this Memoir, and though stories were out of order chronologically, it was still rather good. My dad introduced me to His early albums. "
— Kathryn, 2/9/2014" Very enjoyable short read, organized as a bunch of chapters on different subjects but all focusing on Newhart's recollections on his life in comedy. "
— Mark, 2/4/2014" I guess I can't truly say I read this book since I did do some skimming. However, the reason I checked it out was because I saw a PBS special on Bob Newhart and this book was basically the written version of it, but not as good because you don't hear Newhart's trademark soft-spoken stammer or get to see all the clips of his shows. Instead, he tries to write out comedy bits, which, unfortunately, doesn't work all the time. It would probably be better if I had not seen that special. "
— Gigi, 1/30/2014" Another great biography from a great comedic mind. If you are a Bob Newhart fan you will enjoy this. it is funny and takes you back to the good ol' days of comedy. "
— Rebecca, 1/17/2014" Learned so much about Bob and entertainment. Great book. "
— Bryon, 1/12/2014" It's not really a memoir, just a collection of stories and anectdotes of how he broke into comedy and funny things that happened along the way. There's a surprising number of repeat stories, things he's told in interviews past. Still it's a nice light read from a very funny man. "
— Muchsarcasm, 1/10/2014" what can I say. I love Bob Newhart,and I loved this book. "
