Once in nine lives, something extraordinary happens... The last thing Gwen Cooper wanted was another cat. She already had two, not to mention a phenomenally underpaying job and a recently broken heart. Then Gwen’s veterinarian called with a story about a three-week-old eyeless kitten who’d been abandoned. It was love at first sight. Everyone warned that Homer would always be an “underachiever,” never as playful or independent as other cats. But the kitten nobody believed in quickly grew into a three-pound dynamo, a tiny daredevil with a giant heart who eagerly made friends with every human who crossed his path. Homer scaled seven-foot bookcases with ease and leapt five feet into the air to catch flies in mid-buzz. He survived being trapped alone for days after 9/11 in an apartment near the World Trade Center, and even saved Gwen’s life when he chased off an intruder who broke into their home in the middle of the night. But it was Homer’s unswerving loyalty, his infinite capacity for love, and his joy in the face of all obstacles that inspired Gwen daily and transformed her life. And by the time she met the man she would marry, she realized Homer had taught her the most important lesson of all: Love isn’t something you see with your eyes. Homer’s Odyssey is the once-in-a-lifetime story of an extraordinary cat and his human companion. It celebrates the refusal to accept limits—on love, ability, or hope against overwhelming odds. By turns jubilant and moving, it’s a memoir for anybody who’s ever fallen completely and helplessly in love with a pet.

"Awesome book! I do love cats however I have read other books with cats and did not always like the book. A co-worker of mine who has never owned a cat and never wanted to actually told me about this book. The book was given to her and she was gonna read a little bit on road trip but after starting the book, she was just unable to put it down. I think it is a wonderful story and the fact of it being true is amazing. "

“Renée Raudman gives a warm delivery to this love story of human and cat…The author’s delight in Homer’s accomplishments and bravery shine through in Raudman’s loving, joyful narration…Raudman is the perfect match for the first-time author’s plainspoken text.”
— AudioFile“Through twelve years, six moves, several boyfriends, and a showdown with a burglar, this tender and affecting book reveals Homer’s lessons about love and acceptance—and how he transformed Cooper into the woman she had always wanted to be.”
— Publishers Weekly" I loved it! I've read many cat books and this is one of the best--I laughed in a number of places. The part where one cat successfully woos and wins her anti-cat boyfriend is terrific... Homer, himself, is wonderful, especially his stay with Jorge and the mach amigos. "
— Lisa, 2/19/2014" LOVE cats, HATE this book...Gwen Cooper seems like a self important shallow biatch, despite having adopted a cat with no eyes...She sucks and so does this book...and i have news for you, if you liked this book you also suck. I hope you find this review helpful. "
— Lisa, 2/6/2014" Blech. After "love saves the day" I thought I'd try another Gwen cooper. This book was a challenging re telling of the love of her cat that she adopted. The cat has no eyes due to early kitten hood disasters. My curiosity was peaked. But it just went on and on. I finally gave up. "
— Darla, 2/5/2014" i want a blind cat and a baby barn owl and a wolf dog! "

— Nina, 3/6/2013" was a great book. I did think that the author did leave you hanging a few times. I also think that she over explained or rambled on on other points but all in all a really great book to read. "
— Audra, 4/9/2012" A fabulous story about an amazing cat and his owner. Worth reading for any animal lover. Author is kind of long winded on things I didn't care about. But when she got back to the good stuff it kept me reading. "
— Aprille, 2/27/2012" It was a very sweet and inspiring read about an extraordinary cat whose personality leapt from the pages. Reading about what this cat could do without the benefit of sight had me goading my own cat that she was just lazy. "
— Rachelle, 2/17/2012" A poor black cat that lost both of his eyes due to an infection is adopted by the author and has some crazy (true) adventures! So great to see there are others out there that love their cats as much as I love mine! A cat lover's dream to read and no sad endings! "

— Gretchen, 5/20/2011" I really enjoyed this book. Very heart warming to see how Homer does not even realize he is disadvantaged. "
— Patti, 5/15/2011" Lovely and heart-felt writing. Homer reminds me of another great cat -- Merlin -- who only lost one eye, but lived life with passion and never met a person he didn't love. Not finished yet, but would recommend based on what I've already read. "

— Lynn, 4/29/2011" Nice book - I think you'd HAVE to be an animal lover to enjoy this book though. Light read - amazing stories about the cat - but, I'll probably search for a different book for my kids to read a nice cat story. "
