Ray Hildreth was one of three recon marines who were able to walk off Hill 488 unassisted. He retired from the US Postal Service in 2002 and is a martial-arts instructor in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Sasser, a veteran writer of military history and other books, was himself a member of the Special Forces and a Green Beret and is the bestselling author of One Shot One Kill and, with Roy Boehm, First SEAL.
