In just seven years---from 1950 through 1956---Grace Kelly embarked on a whirlwind career that included roles in 11 movies. From the principled Amy Fowler Kane in High Noon to the thrill-seeking Frances Stevens of To Catch a Thief, Grace established herself as one of Hollywood's most talented actresses and iconic beauties. Her astonishing career lasted until her retirement at age 26, when she withdrew from stage and screen to marry a European monarch and became a modern, working princess and mother. Based on never-before-published or quoted interviews with Grace and those conducted over many years with her friends and colleagues---from costars James Stewart and Cary Grant to director Alfred Hitchcock---as well as many documents disclosed by her children for the first time, acclaimed biographer Donald Spoto explores the transformation of a convent schoolgirl to New York model, successful television actress, Oscar-winning movie star, and beloved royal.

As the princess requested, Spoto waited 25 years after her death to write this biography. Now, with honesty and insight, High Society reveals the truth of Grace Kelly's personal life, the men she loved, the men she didn't, and what lay behind the faccilade of her fairy-tale life.

" This is the second book I have read about Her Serene Highness Princess Grace Kelly Grimaldi. Unfortunately, this book was more serious than I anticipated. For some reason, the author vowed to not publish the book until 25 years after her death. I wasn't quite sure why he vowed this since there was no "Eureka!!" moment, but alas. The book chronicles Grace's rise and short career as a Hollywood Best Actress. There were a few funny tidbits about Grace that I never knew such as she had very poor vision and couldn't see much unless she wore her glasses. (This is funny to me since most people thought she was an icy-cold woman, but in fact, she was just blind!) I was disheartened that the book mostly focused on her acting career than her life as HSH in Monaco. "

" I didn't remember much about Grace Kelly growing up but loved her biography. The book gave a good description of behind the scenes "real" Hollywood that we never saw. Especially interesting since her son, Albert, just got married. "

" Honetstly, not the best written book I have read but written as only a friend could write it: full of interesting insights, admiring commentary, and facts about this truly charming, intelligent and independent woman. As I have always admired Princess Grace for her beauty and acting talent it was wonderful to find that she was a 360 degree person who gave so much to her adopted country, her children and, ultimately, each of us. There was wit, wisdom and wonder behind all the Hollywood hype and she was taken from all of us way too soon. "

" Dealt mostly with Hollywood years..I would have like a little more of her Monaco years. Overall, a good read. "
