A New York real estate tycoon plunges to his death on a Manhattan sidewalk. A trophy wife with a past survives a narrow escape from a brazen attack. Mobsters and moguls with no shortage of reasons to kill trot out their alibis. And then, in the suffocating grip of a record heat wave, comes another shocking murder and a sharp turn in a tense journey into the dirty little secrets of the wealthy. Secrets that prove to be fatal. Secrets that lay hidden in the dark until one NYPD detective shines a light.
Mystery sensation Richard Castle introduces his newest character, NYPD homicide detective Nikki Heat. Tough, sexy, and professional, Nikki carries a passion for justice as she leads one of New York City's top homicide squads. She's hit with an unexpected challenge when the commissioner assigns superstar magazine journalist Jameson Rook to ride along with her to research an article on New York's Finest. Pulitzer Prize winner Rook is as much a handful as he is handsome. But his wisecracking and meddling aren't Nikki's only problems. As she works to unravel the secrets of the murdered real estate tycoon, she must also confront the spark between them. The one called heat.
Castle, the hit ABC television series, premiered in March 2009. The main character, Richard Castle, is the bestselling mystery author of the critically acclaimed Derrick Storm novels. The hard-nosed but sexy Detective Kate Beckett, with whom Castle is paired up, provided the inspiration for Nikki Heat.

"SO meta, at first it made my brain hurt trying to separate the layers of fiction. But so much fun to read as a fan of "Castle" the tv show. I wouldn't like the slightly "over the top" treatment of the woman detective if I hadn't had the knowledge that this was the fantasy life of "Richard Castle"."

“Heat Wave looks like another bestseller for the thrillmaster. It’s hot!”
— James Patterson, New York Times bestselling authorHeat Wave looks like another bestseller for the thrillmaster. It's hot!
— James Patterson, New York Times bestselling author" I am having a really hard time with this book. not much going on?? might be moving on. "
— Charisse, 2/18/2014" If you like the tv show, Castle, you will love this book. Nikki Heat is a NYC detective and the banter in this book is like the tv show. The rapport between the detectives is genuine. The mystery is good and reflects the plodding work of a detective. "
— Marjorie, 2/12/2014" I am a BIG fan of "Castle" on TV so I had to get my hands on this. A fictional book by a fictional author from a TV show. It was a fun read, almost as fun as the show. It was an interesting case to solve. The best part was the sexual tension between Nikki Heat and Jameson Rook of course. "
— Go, 1/11/2014" I read this expecting it to be like the TV show, which I love so much, and was quite disappointed when it was not what I was expecting. My Mom bought it for me for Christmas two years ago, being big fans of the show and I read it on that day. But as I stress I was disappointed. I felt like it was a wrap up and sorely bad fanfiction of the TV show. There were characters in the book that were mirror images of the TV show, which I thought was quite funny but the book was missing the light-ness of the Castle/Beckett relationship AKA (spoiler alert) Beckett would never sleep with Castle unless they both were incredibly drunk but even then I don't think it would happen. The book was not what I was expecting, I was fully expecting Castle and Beckett to be playfully teasing us with their feelings for each other without doing anything, which annoys me to no end but is also one of my favorite parts of the show. I know TV shows should be different from the books, but I felt that this time the TV show was so much better. "
— Galinda, 1/8/2014" I really don't care for the style of writing. I found it a real stuggle to finish the book. "
— Julia, 1/1/2014" It was ok, I didn't get to finish though. It was a little hard to read since I love the TV series. "
— Nicole, 12/22/2013" I was expecting a more well written book. This read almost like when authors base a book on a television show. I felt like I was reading a episode of Castle. "
— Karen, 12/21/2013" It is just like the TV show or is it that the TV show is just like the book..... :) Either way good fun all around. "
— Michele, 12/15/2013" Couldn't get into it. Which makes me sad cause I love this show. "
— Kristen, 12/13/2013" This is a quick read. Mostly mystery, with a bit of flirting and sex thrown in. I'm not familiar with the castle TV series, but enjoyed the book. "
— Jenn, 12/12/2013" I just read a book by a fictional, television character......not so bad..... "
— Terry, 11/29/2013" A comfortable read for fans of Castle. "
— Correna, 10/31/2013" Really like the tv series and wanted to read the books. Entertaining and fun read. "
— Lori, 10/29/2013" An excellent read. I love the TV series and now to get to read the book based on the TV series is a great thrill. Look forward to all of the other books. "
— Robert, 7/14/2012" If your looking for Castle and Beckett you won't find them here. If you want a fun fast read then you have found a new author. As Beckett keeps stating "I'm not Nikki Heat." "
— Carol, 2/2/2012" Lichte lectuur, maar verdienstelijk. Zeker leuk als je de reeks Castle volgt. "
— Edelhart, 8/14/2011" I love castle TV series so I decided to read the book. Unfortunately it didn't meet my expecation. Its still a good read to pass sometime but its not a great book. "
— Diana, 6/18/2011" Fun book tie in with the TV series "
— Judy, 6/5/2011" It's ok. Nice moving story, but not Agatha Christie. However a good airplane read. "
— Lorna, 6/2/2011" For contemporary fiction, this book is terrible. For a tv/movie tie-in novel, it's average. For modern mystery fiction, it's pretty damn good. "
— Kim, 5/19/2011" Average grade noir, based on the TV series; the author is a newspaper reporter and they have sex. So, it is a better story line than TV to that degree anyway. "
— William, 5/18/2011" Whoever wrote this (it's impossible to tell, as the entire booked is packaged as if Castle himself wrote it) did a fantastic job.
It sounds exactly the way one would expect Castle to write.
It played out like a standard episode of Castle, and was very fun to read. "
— Kaitlyn, 5/17/2011" Enjoyed the book - as much as I enjoy the tv show. "
— Martha, 5/17/2011" Castle is super fun, so thought I'd try the books...not bad for a lite read, but I enjoy the show more. Probably won't re-read. "
— elentikvah, 5/15/2011" I love the TV show Castle - I love Nathan Fillion (I think I mispelled his name) - I think it is hysterical that they have several books written by his character (from the show) for sale! "
— Valerie, 5/13/2011" I liked that this is written from the fictional character and it was very much like the show, which I love! However there was a little more language and sex than the show which I didn't love and this is the reason for the three stars, but a good mystery and entertaining to read. "
— Jessica, 5/10/2011" This book was mind-blowing. It was suspenseful and surprising. It was modeled after the tv show Castle. "
— Connery, 5/8/2011" Surprisingly good for a book based on a TV show, although it's better if you've seen the show. "
