Now the only clue to her sister's murder reveals a secret battle between two ancient mythologies—and puts Kayla in the sights of lethally sexy werewolf-mercenary Hart. He'll do whatever it takes to obtain the key to the Gate of the Land of the Dead and free what's left of his soul. But seducing the determined Kayla is putting them both at the mercy of powerful desires neither can control. As the clock ticks down to a hellish catastrophe, the untested bond between Kayla and Hart may lead to the ultimate sacrifice.

"I couldn't put it down. literally took my kindle everywhere I went and read this in even the tiniest spare minute. Ravens and dragons and where wolves, oh my! The authors descriptions of the background, scenery and characters were captivating."

“In this dazzling debut, Brady blends Norse, Babylonian, and Native American mythology to create a dark and compelling story set in an alternate present day…This dark paranormal moves quickly to a thrilling finish, setting the stage for the next installment of this irresistible new series.”
— Publishers Weekly (starred review)“Working with a completely unique premise, Brady blends mythologies and paranormal elements from different cultures…In the world Brady brings to life, the characters are fresh and exciting, and the story is fascinating. Dragons and shapeshifters will never look the same.”
— RT Book Reviews (4 stars)" I think I would give it maybe a 2.75 actually. I didn't really like the two main characters AT ALL. There were a disturbing number of almost rape scenes, but some parts of the story were interesting. I liked when they talked about the steampunk items and fashion even though that was a very small part of the book. I actually might give other books in this series a chance because I liked some of the characters. I also liked some of the mythology but the story seemed to just jump around a bit. "
— Heather, 2/20/2014" I listened to half of this book and just couldn't bring myself to finish it. I didn't care for either of the main characters, particularly the heroine Kayla who I found to be too wimpy for my taste. Nurturing is fine but she was just way too passive. Narrator was OK but not good enough to keep me interested in finishing this book. "
— Sheryl, 2/15/2014" Ended way better than it began. "
— Serena, 2/13/2014" 3 to 3.5 stars I think. Interesting. Story and world building made more sense then the prequel novella although I am glad that I read it. Parts seem a bit clunky and the pacing was uneven but events steadily moved forward. I did wonder a few times about the intelligence of the heroine but she redeemed herself. Some interesting twists and turns that I did not expect. I am certainly curious about the next one. "
— E_bookpushers, 2/9/2014" A great start to trilogy with a strong female lead, a reluctant hero and a centuries-old battle between two groups - neither of which are the traditional 'good guys'. Intriguing. "
— Karen, 1/11/2014" Good read, will read more in this series. "
— Deyara, 10/25/2013" "I will carry you when you grow weary...I will warm you when you are cold." "
— Jane, 8/16/2013" Really good debut. Solid new series based on norse/babylonian mythology. each character had a backstory that was hinted at (cannot wait to read the next book). "
— Nicole, 2/26/2013" Loved this book - started off slowly but became enthralled very quickly. "
— Cheryl, 11/28/2012Kira Brady writes apocalyptic paranormal romances set in a grisly modern-day Seattle. A native Seattleite, she spent her childhood hiking the rainy forests of the Pacific Northwest and drying out by the fire with a good book and a mug of something hot. She graduated with honors from the University of Pennsylvania, where she met her real-life Prince Charming and promptly dragged him back to sunless Seattle. She fell in love with historic haunted cities in graduate school. Now she writes about the twisted cities of her imagination, where wraiths and shape-shifters stalk the night and love redeems even the darkest heart. When not writing, she can be found drinking inordinately large mugs of Assam tea, knitting wool socks, and raising a wee heroine-in-training.
Xe Sands has more than a decade of experience bringing stories to life through narration, performance, and visual art, including recordings of the Nightwalkers series from Jaquelyn Frank.
