This presentation, recorded live before an audience at the 2002 Los Angeles Religious Education Congress, discusses sexual violence and its consequences from the viewpoint of survivors. From their experience as therapists and teachers, Sr. Fran Ferder and Fr. John Heagle recommend ways that faith communities, pastoral ministers, and families can break the cycles of oppression and promote healing.
They see the profound and wondrous gift of sexuality as residing at the core of our being. Violations of that inner identity create profound pain and devastation. In addition to physical sexual violence, relational violence can destroy lives through verbal or physical battery or sexual discrimination. The epidemic exploitation of women, children, and sexual minorities generates havoc worldwide.
