"My son I read this book as a part of Sonlight's P3/4 core. He loved listening to these stories over and over again. The Little Tin Soldier was a favorite, often requested at nap and bedtime. The illustrations in this edition are beautiful and really complement the stories. Most of the stories I had heard before, but there were a couple that were new to me. Overall, the book has a good mix of familiar and not so well known stories."

" I love fairy tales, and this collection makes for the perfect bed-time story. There are a lot of fairy tales included, such as The Little Mermaid, The Emperor's New Clothes, The Ugly Duckling, and The Princess and the Pea. I'm not quite sure if it is due to the translating of these stories from Danish to English, but they give off a mood that is just so different from any other fairy tales I've ever read. This book is definitely NOT just for little kids -- I would probably say it is more of a book for adults than anything. Quite violent things happen in some of these stories, including The Little Mermaid, and some of them don't even teach a good lesson at the end. Nevertheless, these stories are quite addicting, probably due to the fact that they are so different. I would highly recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a fairy tale every once in a while. "

" These stories (along with the Brothers Grimm) were what I was allowed to read growing up. I once completely horrified someone when I explained to her that her 4-year-old daughter's Disney version of "The Little Mermaid" was lacking in a few details. She didn't talk to me much after that. "

" Read a story each night to my daughter. Some are well known classics, some less well known. Certainly darker than modern day children's stories. "

" Hans Christian Andersen is an absolute genius when it comes to writing fairytales. Normally through time, it loses some of the meaning yet stories like thumbelina and tin solider still are the sweetest fairytales. My personal favourite is the wild swans, I absolutely adore this story. "

" I liked reading these stories. However, it is not a book I can read straight through. Each story on its own can be interesting, but if I try to read it cover to cover, I'll fall asleep. "
