An elephant never forgets . . . but can she dream?
For forty-one years, Samson Brown has been caring for Hannah, the lone elephant at the down-at-the-heels Max L. Biedelman Zoo. Having vowed not to retire until an equally loving and devoted caretaker is found to replace him, Sam rejoices when smart, compassionate Neva Wilson is hired as the new elephant keeper. But Neva quickly discovers what Sam already knows: that despite their loving care, Hannah is isolated from other elephants and her feet are nearly ruined from standing on hard concrete all day. Using her contacts in the zookeeping world, Neva and Sam hatch a plan to send Hannah to an elephant sanctuary—just as the zoo's angry, unhappy director launches an aggressive revitalization campaign that spotlights Hannah as the star attraction, inextricably tying Hannah's future to the fate of the Max L. Biedelman Zoo.
A charming, poignant, and captivating novel certain to enthrall readers of Water for Elephants, Diane Hammond's Hannah's Dream is a beautifully told tale rich in heart, humor, and intelligence.

"This delightful book will make you laugh and cry. Full of quirky but believable characters, it has the makings of a great movie. As the story unfolds, the descriptions of the people, places, and animals are so vivid and bright it's like a movie unfolding in print. A great read."

— Publishers Weekly" What a great character book. A few plot problems are more than balanced by the fact that I fell in love with nearly every vividly drawn character, even the "bad guy." "
— Sonja, 2/20/2014" i have scarcely laughed or cried as much "
— Vernyce, 2/19/2014" I really wanted to LOVE this book--and I really liked the premise and the storyline--and I thought it was for the most part well-written. I appreciated the author giving her background at the beginning so one knew what she was trying to accomplish. It bothered me that she felt that she had to talk about reincarnation a couple of times to try to induce sympathy for animals from people. I can be sympathetic, empathetic and loving without thinking that my dog is one of my deceased relatives reincarnated. I also liked both of the love interests that were introduced in the story and was bothered by them being both seemingly "worthy" and no further development of Johnson Johnson's interest. I found Johnson Johnson facsinating, but it seemed like he was just going to be used by the heroine to further the main purposes. I enjoyed the book. It was a fun weekend read. "
— Lora, 2/15/2014" This is a delightful quick read complete with villains, a pig, a man who decorates toilets (inside and out)and a personable elephant with foot problems. "
— Maggie, 2/11/2014" I am always leary about reading an animal book because they usually do not end well. This is a story about a wonderful old man and his relationship with this elephant. It is a good read with a sweet ending. "
— Caryn, 2/11/2014" A heart-warming story about a man and his elephant. You can't help but fall in love with Hannah, and cheer on those who are trying to get the best care for her possible. The story drags in the beginning a little too much for my taste, but by the end I couldn't put it down. It is really just a very sweet story. "
