A guide to help Christians parent their children with grace and an emphasis on the cross.

How are parents to raise children so they don't become Pharisees (legalists) or prodigals (rebels)? It's all about grace-filled, gospel-driven parenting, says the mother/daughter team of Elyse Fitzpatrick and Jessica Thompson. Christian parents, in their desire to raise godly children, can tend toward rule-centered discipline. There is, however, a far more effective method - a grace-motivated approach that begins with the glorious truth of God's love for sinners.

In Give Them Grace, parents will learn how to connect the benefits of the cross - especially regeneration, adoption, and justification - to their children's daily lives. Chapters address topics such as our inability to follow the law perfectly, God's forgiveness and love displayed at the cross, and what true heart obedience looks like. Fitzpatrick and Thompson also discuss discipline, dealing with popular culture, and evangelism as a way of life. Parents will find this book a great resource for raising grace-filled, Jesus-loving kids.

" This book was a breath of fresh air from other parenting books. Do not get me wrong, I enjoy a variety of books on parenting, but this one was different. From the beginning Elyse and Jessica are clear that we cannot parent alone. Without Christ in our lives it is impossible! Though the title appears to imply that we should just give grace all of the time and never discipline, it is quite the opposite. It was beautiful to see how we give them grace all the time and discipline. They go hand in hand. Why? Because we love them. God loves His children and He gives grace and discipline to His children, therefore we do the same to ours. I loved this book as it continually keeps the focus where it belongs, on Jesus and His work on the cross. "

" A good focus on rearing children with the gospel, not just leagalism / moralism which comes so natural to many (myself included) "

" This book gave me much to think about. I thought that some of the authors explainations to small children were too long. However, I do want to teach my children about grace and why we try to live the way we do. It did give me ideas. "
