When we last left the mighty wizard detective Harry Dresden, he wasn't doing well. In fact, he had been murdered by an unknown assassin.

Being dead doesn't stop him when his friends are in danger, but now he has nobody—and no magic to help him. And there are several dark spirits roaming the Chicago shadows who owe Harry some payback of their own.

To save his friends—and his own soul—Harry will have to pull off the ultimate trick...without any magic.

"I think this might be my favorite Harry Dresden story. Harry has always been a very human hero with all the faults and fancies that come with that. In this story, we see that most of all. He is dead and now a spirit, stripped of his powers and charged with saving his friends. It was quite intense, watching him come to grips with this and with the consequences of choices that he made. I wait raptly for the opportunity to read the next book in the series."

" I wasn't sure when I first started this, Harry couldn't do magic! And (poor english I know) what about the other charachers? But I soon got into it. This book answered a lot of questions from the series and really felt that is was a end. As I know Jim is releasing the next book in October I knew it wouldn't be. There were clues as to where Dresden would go next... will have to wait and see. I missed Mouse though... "

" Glad to see Harry with soul-able to reflect on his motivs, notice his feelings, and raise up a few of the lost. Probably wont last through, the next book, but adds a little depth to an enjoyable if shallow series "

" I listened to Ghost Story as an audio book. Jim Butcher includes a lot of backstory in his books so even though I have skipped around in this series I was never lost. This was a good addition to the series. "

" Not as good as Changes. Since Changes is easily the best in the Dresden series, that's okay. The series as a whole has steadily gotten better since the first few. I do get a little tired of the Star Wars/Star Trek, X Men, Tom and Jerry references. A little goes a long way with that stuff! Have always liked Harry's moral compass, though. Like the follow through of all that happens, the law of unintended consequences, the complexity, the harsh realities that underlie all the fantasy. Which is why I will stop everything to read Cold Days whenever it comes out. Long live Harry. "

" Not as good as Changes, but does bring fresh material to the series. Between Changes and Ghost Story, the setting has changed a lot and that's good. Things were getting a bit repetitive and stale. "

" I'm both sad and relieved to be done. And really happy there will be a new book in the series later this year. That will give me time to recuperate, and something to look forward to. I think I may celebrate finishing the series by re-watching Star Wars. Or Lord of the Rings. Or both. "
