Publisher Description

Cameron Wolfe is the quiet one in his family, not a soccer star like his brother Steve or a charming fighter with a new girl every week like his brother Rube. Cam would give anything to be near one of those girls, to love her and treat her right. He especially likes Rube's latest, Octavia, with her brilliant ideas and bright green eyes. But what woman like that would want a loser like him? Maybe Octavia would, Cam discovers. Maybe he'd even have something to say. And those maybes change everything: winning, loving, losing, the Wolfe brothers, and Cameron himself.

Fans of The Book Thief won't want to miss reading the novels that launched Markus Zusak's stellar career.

"I have mixed feelings about this book. I love some of Zusak's other books, so I decided to give this a try. You can tell this is an earlier book because, while I still love his writing style and his creative figurative language, it seemed a lot more forced in this book. I love the portrayal of a family and the bond that siblings share, and I really love the plot. This is a great young adult book with a unique and surprisingly strong protagonist, but I could see how some might see it as over the top, with each character really being a caricature of someone that we know. I can't help it though, I still really liked it."

" This is the sequel to FIGHTING RUBEN WOLFE, and while I don't think it's quite as good as the first one, it's still pretty great. I know this will sound sacrilegeous to BOOK THIEF fans, but I actually like this book just as well as that one. They're pretty much tied for my personal 3rd place Zusak book. 4 1/2 stars. "

" When dogs cry by Markus Zusak is a beautiful, poetical book about some of the harder things in life. Cameron Wolfe is a 'lonely bastard' who prowls the streets of Sydney. He doesn't fit in anywhere, even his family thinks he is a loser. Then he meets Octavia and she sees in him something no one else does and helps him realize some of his dreams. About family, love and life it is up to Zusak's usual high standards. "

" This book is very intesting. It talks about how brothers fight and what it takes to bring them back together. This is a really good book because the girl, Octavia, really liked the younger brother but when the other brother found out, they fought and they discover things they never knew about each other..so read this book! " I don't know-I wouldn't recommend this book to any one I know. It started out really rough, I almost put it down. The ending was better, I could hear the main characters voice and his desire to be. I did like how he continually referred to his mother as Mrs. Wolfe and had a great respect for her. "

" I loved Cam in this book. My heart ached for him to belong and find himself. I read it in a couple hours, so it was a quick read but inspiring. There are some sexual references and language, but it's about teen-aged boys, so just kinda comes with the territory. Sweet book. "

" Throughout the majority of this book, I would probably rank it as 3 stars. But, this had a pretty incredible ending that made it jump to 4 stars. Not as good as Fighting Ruben Wolfe, but better than Underdog. "

" read this in one night. granted, its YA and short but it was also a fabulous book. the plot was nothing original but the dialog and the main character, Cameron, was so damm lovable. And his "words" were powerful, lyrical. Highly recommend it. "

" I think this one was my favorite. I love the writing and I think it speaks true of the younger brother. Markus needs to write another book, right now. "
