A successful film maker, painter, playwright, and best-selling author, Clive Barker commands an astonishing range of creative talent. Drawing upon the literary genius that produced Sacrament, he returns to the realm of the supernatural with this intriguing saga of two families, one human and the other divine. One of America’s wealthiest and most influential families since the Civil War, the Gearys harbor terrible secrets. The Barbarossa family’s roots are far more ancient and ethereal, but they are bound to the Gearys by a shared history of murder, insanity, and adultery. When Rachel Geary and Galilee, the seductive prince of the Barbarossa clan, fall in love, they unleash powerful enmities that could destroy both dynasties. Shorter and more conventional than some of Barker’s other work, this novel is especially rich with complex, passionate, three-dimensional characters, lush settings, and elegant language. Paul Hecht’s powerful narration gives added depth to this dark, sumptuous novel.

"I really enjoyed this book. I thought the love story was amazing and the flashbacks. I think there may have been a little to much sex in the book however. It is probably my favorite Barker book but you really have to be open minded to read it. It deals with homosexuality and incest. "

" I liked parts of this but it felt like the book took forever to get started. The story is fragmented and meant to be but as a result you take a long time to actually want to know whats happening with the characters. By a little after halfway through the book starts to have and hold more interest. "

— Caroline, 1/29/2014" Finish the series Mr. Barker! "
— Christopher, 1/28/2014" A very different tale.... Kept me interested throughout, and carried me into generations of a layered story, once again. "
— Michele, 1/22/2014" OMG I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!!! MUST READ!! "
— Charles, 1/20/2014" one of my most favvorite books! ive read it multiple times "
— Jei, 1/14/2014" I just re read this and it is still fabulous. You get so lost in someone elses world, there is nothing better "
— Gina, 1/1/2014" Dissapointing. This is nothing like Barker's usual excellent work. Fans of horror should avoid this title, it is more like a family history and did not appeal to me at all. The only positive comment that I can make is that it has a nice cover! "
— Brian, 12/24/2013" Kinda Clive Barkers coming out novel. I thought Galilee was representative of Barker to some extent when I read it. Kinda boring. "
— Michael, 12/16/2013" Much to love. This is the novel I would have my wife read to understand why I enjoy Clive Barker. The other stuff would worry her so... :) "
— Robert, 12/11/2013" reminded my of The Witching Hour by Anne Rice but with less supernatural and darkness.. but still unnatural and with darkness.. "
