In Brooklyn, a female jogger is brutally raped; the assailants are convicted and later exonerated by the Kings County DA. Now the guilty are filing a multimillion-dollar lawsuit against the city of New York, the police, and the two assistant DAs who tried the case. While the cops and the criminal justice system are under media assault, Karp has suspicions that there is corruption within his own office.
Against a backdrop of Russian mobsters and corrupt lawyers, Butch and Marlene are on a mission to restore the system's lost dignity and bring the rapists to justice. All the while terrorists are at it again, planning to blow the roof off Times Square on New Year's Eve. Alas, the Karp family finds itself in lethal jeopardy, and to survive, they must team up and fight their greatest battle yet.

"May you never attack Marlene Ciampi's kids, or you will feel her Fury unleashed. The incredible length some will go to protect their kids. She's an amazing mom. Just a bit on the extreme side.... "

“Sellars clearly delivers the fast-paced dialogue and keeps the characters defined.”
— Audiofile“The epilogue is guaranteed to keep fans hanging from a cliff till next year.”
— Kirkus Reviews" Too much violence...and they kept re-telling the same violent event again and again. On to other books which offer so much more. "
— Pam, 11/26/2013" The opening chapter was really gruesome and had me hooked to see what would come of it. But all in all, it wasn't that thrilling of a book. I didn't realize until the end that it's part of a series of the 1 main character so maybe had I read them in order I would've enjoyed it more. "
— Tasha, 11/26/2013" I thought the tale brilliant until Chapter 28, then it went into the realm of stupidity. "

— Nancy, 11/28/2011" I thought this was a very disjunct book. I had the feeling that when he would run out of ideas relating to a particular character or part of the story so he would introduce a new character. I read about 125 pages and gave up. I don't think I'll be reading another Tenenbaum book anytime soon! "
— Thomas, 9/11/2011" The rape and how it was dealt with in the court system was very un-nerving. This was a very graphic book but the characters were easy to stay with. "
